Lucille Ball movies (1933-46) before "I Love Lucy".

James McDonald
The list author says: "This is a list of movies Lucille Ball did as she was just beginning to become a film actress. Not all of her movies are here because they are not available on VHS nor DVD. She had done many films as an "extra" or in a "walk-on" role. She gradually began to get more bigger roles and being a model and doing radio sure did help her career, especially with Bob Hope. While doing the film, Too Many Girls (1940), she met her future husband, Desi Arnaz, who also had a role in the film. On radio, she did a series called "My Favorite Husband". This show was being turned into a CBS tv series and she insisted that her husband, Desi Arnaz, play her husband in the tv series. Finally they agreed. They did the audition (pilot) episode for "I Love Lucy" on March 2, 1951. It became a "lost episode" and was never seen on television until it was found and broadcast in 1986. Lucy was pregnant at the time of filming with Lucie Arnaz. She was also pregnant while she filmed, The Magic Carpet (1951). The pilot episode did well and so "I Love Lucy" began filming their first offical episode, "Lucy Thinks Ricky is Trying to Murder Her", on September 8, 1951. However, it was not the first episode to be broadcast as it was aired later. On October 15, 1951, they aired "I Love Lucy" for the first time with the episode, "The Girls Want To Go To A Nightclub". "I Love Lucy" became a major success from 1951-57. The tv series continued on the "Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Show" as 13 one-hour special episodes in 1957-60.
By the way, the story of the pilot episode of March 1951, was filmed all over again for the "I Love Lucy" series. Episode #6 was "The Audition".
