Ultimate Comic Book / Graphic Novel List for Young Readers

Desert Rat
The list author says: "The list author says: "I always loved comics since I was a kid in the 70s. I am a current collector and searched for comics that my kids would like and have suitable content. One of the things that drove me away from the hobby for awhile was the dark turn that many of my favorite comics took when trying to appeal to "mature" readers. This list has some awesome stories for kids from 5 to 16 (I enjoy all of these stories as an adult also) and great messages or are just plain fun to read. Enjoy!""
BONE #1: Out from Boneville
BONE #1: Out from Boneville
"The #1 in this list - great story and once you get the first one you will order the other eight!"
Owly, Vol. 1: The Way Home & The Bittersweet Summer
Owly, Vol. 1: The Way Home & The Bittersweet Summer
"Great start to graphic storytelling for young pre-readers."
The Adventures of Tintin, Vol. 1 (Tintin in America / Cigars of the Pharaoh / The Blue Lotus)
The Adventures of Tintin, Vol. 1 (Tintin in America / Cigars of the Pharaoh / The Blue Lotus)
"Tintin is awesome.  I find his tories have more appeal to boys than girls.  This is the format to get, though with the three stories in one.  The first volume is great but a little slow.  It really gets going in volumes 3 and up when you start meeting the other great characters like Captain Haddock, Prof Calculus, and Bianca Castiafore."
Little Lulu Volume 23: The Bogey Snowman and Other Stories
Little Lulu Volume 23: The Bogey Snowman and Other Stories
"John Stanley and Irving Tripp were masters.  Any of the Little Lulu compilations from Dark Horse are great.  The more recent ones (I believe after Vol 18) are in full color also.  They have started releases of Tubby which may be more appealing to boys."
Sonic the Hedgehog Archives, Vol. 1
Sonic the Hedgehog Archives, Vol. 1
"I haven't totally figured this one out but my kids love Sonic.  these get lots of wear from my kids 7 yrs and up.  The only downside I have found is that some of them the pages come loose after a bit.  If you can, send em back to Amazon for a refund and replacement."
Turok: Son of Stone Archives Volume 1
Turok: Son of Stone Archives Volume 1
""Does your boy like dinosaurs?  Well, he should be in heaven with these comics.  Full color renditions of the Dell classics with a healthy dose of dinosaurs in every issue.  Great classic stuff.  I threw away my 8 year olds readers and substituted this instead."
The Harvey Comics Treasury Volume 1
The Harvey Comics Treasury Volume 1
"These are classic Casper stories and you will f ind out quickly if your child likes the sometimes zany Harvey type stories."
