The list author says: "Other cd's that should be acknowledged or that I didn`t have room for below are by Johnny Dowd "Wake Up The Snakes", Caleb Klauder "Western Country", Salty Dogs "Brand New Reason" (Max Recordings), Esquela "The Owl Has Landed", Joe Flood "New Kind of Blue", Mark Erelli, "Little Vigils" (Self), Joe Fournier "Truth & Twang", Caleb Stine "I Wasn't Built for a Life Like This", Mike McClure "Zero Dark Thirty" , Nick Cave's rock band "Grinderman II, Pete Berwick "Give it Time" (Shotgun), Kip Boardman "The Long Weight", Brock Zeman "Ya Ain't Crazy Henny Penny"(Mud)& $100 Difference (Isotope), Ray Barnard & The Reverberation (former frontman for The Copperheads), "Tinted Windows to the Soul" and finally, for the holidays, Scott Miller's E.P. "Christmas Gift" (Self)."
"Adam Carroll is great. I didn't know Michael O'Connor until now. What a disc! Great dusty Texas folk. If you know Carroll then you know he's one of the best and this is one of this year's best for sure."
"A mainstay on the California music scene, his songs have been admired & covered by big names, Dwight Yoakum to name one. A unique, country-fied Americana artist who's likely to remain on the fringes simply because he's a throwback to days gone by. His voice is scraggly, like your older brother singing Webb Pierce in the garage & not doing a good job at it. Honest stuff. Produced by Jesse Dayton."
"Promising, edgy Bluegrass dudes come out with their sophomore and they've already switched singers. While former lead singer Chris Stapleton appears on this disc, it looks like they may have replaced him with Gary Nichols for the long-run. I liked their debut a lot and Stapleton but this is another winner. Just stay true to yourselves and you'll be fine."
"These folks who have panned Jr. over the years missed the boat completely on this very cool guy. No, he's not like his Daddy's music. He's more like Tim Carroll's brother. That's a big reason to check him out."
"He wisely hired Rick Rubin to produce his last release and it was a really good disc. He hired T-Bone this time and he's already getting hammered for a more expansive sound. Personally, I like it. I think this boy's on track to break-out and be fairly big. A good songwriter."
"She started out very rootsy and incorporated a more full-band yet authentic sound over the years, but she's a keeper. She comes from a long-line of musicians in her family but she's turned out to be the best. Of course, that's only my opinion but it's also pretty acurate."
"The diesel man is back and it's gonna be a good year just because of that! If Chuck Berry was white, liked big trucks, and didn't want a big record deal, he'd be Bill Kirchen's Uncle! I have never heard a bad release from the guy."
"Mary signed on with Razor & Tie Records. This disc has been pounded by a few reviewers but to me it's been somewhat unfair. Mary's never gonna be the Brady Bunch so get used to the sombre tone. I like it."
"Peter Cooper is really coming out of the woodworks. He's actually a writer who's been on fire releasing a solo disc, 2 releases with Eric Brace, and now this, an awesome tribute disc of sorts to, and with the master himself Lloyd Green. Any fan of Americana should not miss this."
"Yep Roc (his American label) said this was coming out in Janurary. I've been waiting patiently until I couldn't take it anymore and downloaded it. It's great stuff. Loudo at his best. Now it's being released as an import on Fanthom label in July. I hate when they do this but this release is worth the wait. Go to his site or sit tight until then for the hard copy."
"Robyn is unique and that's an understatement. He grows on you like good weed(s). Nobody sings about insects and food (sometimes at the same time!) and makes it all delicious. Always worth the purchase for me."
"The Corn-man returns, as usual with a generous helping of some the best rockin' country/jump/swing that you'll likely hear. True professionals that have been having a blast doing what they love for years."
"This is his second release this year. His other one (mentioned above) isn't showing here. Excellent songwriter. Often he's wrongly labelled as Country due to his past. He's more "Rock" leaning than anything else. That's the only reason he gets negative reviews."
"Anyone not familiar with Lynn Miles may want to look into one of the better singer-songwriters in folk/pop genre. This is a collection of previous material re-recorded. These also usually don't make my lists but... A great overview that will make you a fan. **Her new disc is out in Canada & has a release date in January in the States. It`ll be on my 2011 list on this site."
"Usually live discs don't make my list but this is John Prine. Enough said. There's also a tribute disc out entitled "Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows" by Americana stalwarts paying homage to the king himself. I love this man."
"Wow...wow.... this is an 8-disc set by Aussie Paul Kelly"s live recordings "How To Make Gravy" (The A-Z recordings). A terrific anthology of Paul's music done in concert, stripped-down over the last couple of years."
