The list author says: "Many reviewers, both here and in several gaming sites review ds titles but don´t say whether (except in some instances) the games are suitable for children. After many games and testing with my 5 year old boy and his 6 and 7 year old cousins here is my list...
Some that didn´t make into are:
Partners in time (same as Bowser´s Inside story) Sonic Collection (the controls are a bit off) Ben 10 Alien force (a bit boring!) Tetris DS (too difficult for the intended crowd) Cars (not as much fun, 6/10) Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - Autobots (requires too much hand holding) Mario DS 64 (the 3D is a bit disorienting for the young fellows) The Legendary Starfy (don´t know why, but the kid lost interest..)"
"Great game. Lots of levels. It is fun to use the different kids (Mario kid, Luigi kid, Princess kid). It is easy, but to get all the stuff you will need a lot of patience. Children friendly score: 8/10"
"Some argue that this is not a true game but a showcase of the ds touch capabilities: there´s not a full game, but a collection of few mini games. However these can be played again and again for hi scores. It was one of (or the) first game to fully utilize the touch screen of the ds. Still, my kid really enjoys it and Yoshi is very cute to look at:7/10."
"What happens when Mario is kidnapped? Princess Peach comes to the rescue. Great game, lots of quests, upgrading (a la Luigi and Bowser inside story), and specially a heroine´s romp instead of the usual Mario and Luigi quests. The game is challenging and if you have a girl that enjoys Mario, is a very special treat. Definitely a 9/10 game."
"Excellent graphics, sound, gameplay and lasting appeal. We bought it 2 years ago and we haven´t finish it completely. It is not as frustrating as some levels in the Wii version and the kid can really go solo. Only the story is getting old, but still is the BEST game for the nintendo DS, period!! A perfect 10/10!!"
"Great fun, but still not one of his favorites. My kid´s cousins love, though. The tracks are not very hard, the powerups are always fun and the sound and graphics are top notch. A must have, nevertheless! 8/10."
"I was a bit skeptical about this game. After all, Sonic dashes too fast through the screen for the kid to really appreciate it. I was wrong!! It is very colorful, many challenges and many hidden stuff, so it makes for a great game. Having a cat for a companion is the cherry on the top! 8/10."
"I was afraid that since Mario Kart is not such a hit with my kid, that this wouldn´t be so interesting. I rent it first and boy, was I wrong!! He loves it for the graphics, the songs (can unlock tracks, characters, songs with miles gained in the game). Only downside is that the screen is not as populated as Mario Kart (6 vs 10 racers) and that is difficult.Still, a 7/10."
"This is one game that I really hesitated about buying, because the Wii version is hard (for my kid) and is a bit boring. But after my nephew raved about it, I gave it a try: it is not as difficult as is Wii counterpart and for small stretches of time (10-15 min) is a lot of fun. Very recommended: 8/10."
"Good game. Very nice graphics and action. I really don´t it like much because of the fighting, but my son loves anything TMNT. Is definitely on the short side, and gets repetitive but can be played again and again for higher grades and some hidden stuff. A solid 7/10."
"Excellent game!! Tons of hours of enjoyment for the kid. Of course, if he has any of the Mario´s titles he wouldn´t go for this, but when he wants to draw or paint something, this is it!! A great 9/10."
"Is a great adventure playing as Mario, Luigi and... Bowser!Mario, Luigi & Peach are trapped inside Bowser, and they have to find a way out.Play as Bowser half of the game, with very cool ways (blow into the mic, stylus, play sideways). Needs a lot of reading so you have to do some hand holding. Partners in Time is very similar, but this one gets the nod because of Bowser! A solid 8/10."
"A great entry by Kirby! There are other two games, Canvas Curse (heavy stylus use) and Squeak Squad, but this gets everything right: not as difficult, lots and lots of gameplay, many mini-games, great gameplay and sound. Only gripe is that is a bit short, but my kid don´t seem to mind. I had to buy one for my nephew in a hurry after playing with my kid´s. A solid 10/10 (from my kid POV)!"
