2011 Reading List

Shannon L. Yarbrough "Shannon L. Yarbrough"
The list author says: "Books play a big part of my life - in work and as a hobby. This is the third year I've kept track of what I've read here on Amazon as a Listmania list just to share with anyone whose interested. But it's more my own private list than anything. I'll be adding more throughout the year."
A Christmas Carol
A Christmas Carol
"I'd never actually read A Christmas Carol so I downloaded it to my Kindle over Christmas weekend and finished it on Christmas Day.  Figured it was a good way to kick off my 2011 reading list."
Stealing Wishes
Stealing Wishes
"Since I got a Kindle for Christmas, I had to download one of my own books just for the reading experience.  Finished it on New Years Eve."
Wander the Rainbow: A true story of a living liver donation, an epic journey around the world, and a gay man's search for himself
Wander the Rainbow: A true story of a living liver donation, an epic journey around the world, and a gay man's search for himself
"Finished January 2nd.  Wasn't the book I thought it would be.  Great travel log if you enjoy a touristy read about world travel, but the living liver donation side of the story is very minute."
DRACULAS (A Novel of Terror)
DRACULAS (A Novel of Terror)
"A fun gory read, often over the top, but worth a read if you like zombie-type outbreaks and loathe shiny vampires. Finished it 1/17/11 on my Kindle. Be advised only about 50% is the story itself.  The other 50% is "the making of" emails between the authors, behind the scenes stuff, and teasers of their other work."
Grundish and Askew
Grundish and Askew
"Bizarre redneck toilet humor.  A fun read that got off to a great start but lost steam in the end for me. Finished it 1/26/11."
Geek Girl
Geek Girl
"Great teen read with lots of heart!  Finished it 2/1/11."
Cherished: 21 Writers on Animals They Have Loved and Lost
Cherished: 21 Writers on Animals They Have Loved and Lost
"Advanced Reader's Copy. Finished 2/4/11.  Great book if you need help dealing with grief over a lost or dead pet, but very sad. Read my review to learn more."
Reaper (Soul Screamers)
Reaper (Soul Screamers)
"If you liked the TV series Dead Like Me, you'll enjoy this teen version with a new twist.  Finished it 2/20/11 on Kindle.  And it's free right now!"
Gentlemen Callers: Tennessee Williams, Homosexuality, and Mid-Twentieth-Century Drama
Gentlemen Callers: Tennessee Williams, Homosexuality, and Mid-Twentieth-Century Drama
"A good long look at homosexual characters in Williams' plays mirrored with what was happening in Williams' life at the time he wrote them. A bit dry unless you appreciate the infamous playwright.  Finished it 2/20/11"
Hellhound on His Trail: The Electrifying Account of the Largest Manhunt in American History
Hellhound on His Trail: The Electrifying Account of the Largest Manhunt in American History

My Baby Blue Jays
My Baby Blue Jays
"Okay, I know its a kids book but it was written by John Berendt, one of my favorite authors, so I had to have a copy.  Got it on its release date thanks to Amazon.  June 9th  and read it in one setting.  Great book for the young and young at heart!"

The Cypress House
The Cypress House
"Great book!  Since I enjoyed The Ridge so much I couldn't wait to read this one.  Finished it July 2nd.  Taking a break from Koryta for a different read next, but I'll definitely be back."
What the Night Knows: A Novel
What the Night Knows: A Novel
"Finished July 9th!  The first Koontz book I ever read and I loved it.  Will definitely be exploring him again soon."
Bag of Bones
Bag of Bones
"This is the first fictional King book I've read since  high school.  It was a good read, but having just read Koontz I really wanted a bit more intensity.  King is good at building characterization and really getting into the psyche, but he drones on and on too much sometimes and it really bogs the story down.  Still a good read.  I finished it in just two weeks - on July 23rd."
Frankenstein: Prodigal Son: A Novel
Frankenstein: Prodigal Son: A Novel
"Great read from Koontz.  Loving the series and definitely plan to continue. Already started Book 2. Check out my review. Finished this one July 29th."

"Part 2 in the series. Finished it 8/5/11. It wasn't as good as the first one, but I'm still intrigued. Check out my review. Already reading Book 3."
Frankenstein: Dead and Alive: A Novel
Frankenstein: Dead and Alive: A Novel
"The worst in the series so far.  Definitely 3 stars.  Let's hope the last 2 are better.  Finished this 8/13/11."
Frankenstein: Lost Souls: A Novel
Frankenstein: Lost Souls: A Novel
"Part 4 in the series.  Finished it 8/19/11.  The story moves to Montana, and unfortunately leaves a lot of its darkness behind in New Orleans. Koontz has too many characters that never reach their full potential. Read my review for more info."
The Dead Town (Dean Koontz's Frankenstein, Book 5)
The Dead Town (Dean Koontz's Frankenstein, Book 5)
"Part 5 in the series and the finale.  Not a good ending, but I was pleased with the series overall.  Finished it 8/25/11. Check out my review."
Twilight Eyes
Twilight Eyes
"Not my favorite Koontz by far.  The first half was great, but the second half went down hill very quickly and the ending was just bland. Finished it 9/11/11.  Read my review for more details."
Odd Thomas
Odd Thomas
"Great book and I will definitely finish the series.  However, it wasn't what I expected because there isn't anything new here as far as Psychic Mediums go.  The surprise ending wasn't even enough to redeem itself. Finished it 10/1.  I gave it 3 stars. Read my full review."
Intensity
Intensity
"Sped read through it this month and finished it 10/21/11, which was really too long.  Probably my least favorite of his so far. Read my review for the full wrap. 2 stars."
The Leaving: A Novel
The Leaving: A Novel
"Finished 10/23/11. A beautiful, at times haunting, coming of age story about a young girl trying to discover who she is socially and sexually."
Forever Odd (Odd Thomas)
Forever Odd (Odd Thomas)
"Another lackluster book, the 2nd in the Odd Thomas series, that just wasn't as exciting as I hoped it would be. 3 stars. Finished it October 31st."
11/22/63: A Novel
11/22/63: A Novel
"A book I've been waiting to read all year!  I thoroughly enjoyed it, but once again, King gets wrapped up in the everyday life of his characters and strays from the big picture.  Still a great read. I gave it 4 stars out of 5. Finished it 11/23/11."
Obedience: A Novel
Obedience: A Novel
"A book that's been on my back list for quite a while.  An okay mystery at first but the last 50 pages ruined it for me.  I read it in 2 days. 3 out of 5 stars. Finished it 11/27/11."
The Moonlit Mind: A Tale of Suspense (Kindle Single)
The Moonlit Mind: A Tale of Suspense (Kindle Single)
"Finished it 12/1/11.  2 stars. Horrible Novella leading in too many directions. Koontz should definitely stick to writing more engrossing novels.  This ebook lacked substance."
Appalachian Justice
Appalachian Justice
"5 Stars!  Easily one of the best books I've read this year. Finished it 12/14 and highly recommend!  Very disturbing read, but very heartfelt as well."
A Christmas Memory
A Christmas Memory

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium Series)
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium Series)
"One of those books I thought I would probably never read, but I'm so glad I did.  Very complex crime drama that takes lots of patience, but is well worth the read. Check out my full review.  Finished it 12/29/11."
Relentless
Relentless
"Listened to this one on audio in my car. Great story from Koontz, better than some of the others I've read this year but the ending wasn't that great.  Still a good read.  Finished it 12/29/11."
