Evidence-Based Books for Leadership, Management, and Life

John Antonakis
The list author says: "This list is not for those who like fluff; it is for serious business managers who want easy-to-read books based on evidence.

The first book I recommend sets the stage regarding the importance of evidence-based practice. The Halo effect shows why top-selling books like "Good to Great," "Build to last" or "Primal Leadership: Realizing the Power of Emotional Intelligence" are diseases that should never have made it to bookshops. They did unfortunately, and have spread like the plague. Rozenzweig’s book is an antidote; after having read this book, I predict that most managers will immune to the marketing gimmicks of benchmarking-style books. Same goes for Freek Vermeulen's book, which is a great read!

Most management and leadership development books ignore evidence-based practice; those that do not are too academic and difficult reads. So I opted to recommend general purposes books that are a nice complements to The Halo effect and are great companions to aid leaders in decision making; they will help you to think more critically and to take a science-based perspective to understanding management and life."
