--Summer Infant products are all PVC- and phlalate-free (ie: changing table pads, waterproof mattress pads, etc). --One of the best pieces of advice I got was to buy a video monitor. Instead of jumping up at every little cry or waiting till he's screaming, you look to see what's going on and go to him when he needs you. --I don't care which swing you get, but if you get one, make sure it plugs in to a wall outlet instead of only using batteries!"
"Although these bottles aren't 100% leakproof (you don't want them on their side in the diaper bag), you can drink from them while laying down. This is great in the middle of the night, especially if you nurse laying down. Also, if you only have one hand free, it's hard to open a regular bottle. The kids valve is more leakproof."
"Superior to any other breast pads I've tried (Medela, Nuk, La Leche League, and Kushies). Very absorbent, and they don't bunch up in the wash, so they are flat/smooth under your clothes. The only negative is that they aren't waterproof, so if you leak a lot, you'll soak through to your shirt. Easy remedy: cut circles out of the Carter's lap pads and put them in between your bra and the breast pad."
"Any of the books by Tana Hoban are great for visual stimulation for an infant. Babies often stare off into the distance, drawn to bright lights, windows, and high contrast things. But, if we offer something to look at between 8-14" from their face, they are captivated by complex designs. These books are perfect for their interest and ability."
"Get at least 3 packs of these, even if your baby doesn't spit up much! Put them anywhere your little one lays his head--the crib, his floor play area, the changing table (you'll want one under his other end there too)."
"Waffle knit or thermal is the way to go for swaddling. Because the fabric stretches, you can get a much tighter swaddle. Also, DO NOT BOTHER with 30" x 30" receiving blankets. Only buy 30" x 40". Koala Baby 2-packs from Babies R Us are our favorites."
"We were given one of these, hand-me-down, and thought we'd never use it. Now we want to get more of them! They easily clip on wherever baby is sitting. For our newborn, we clipped cards from the Manhattan Toy Company Car Seat Gallery to the arch and put it on his swing and bouncy seat."
