The list author says: "The Horus Heresy is the "Darth Vader" saga of the 40k universe. Told right it's one of the best stories I've ever read. Told wrong it's not just bad, it's torture. This is a list of the Horus Heresy novels in order and what I think about them, plus some other 40k books that are good reads."
"4 stars. This was the first book i read by Ben Counter. While it wasn't bad (not even close) the quality of writing went down. This book suffered from a lot of stupid senseless action. It's something a lot of 40k books suffer from."
"3 stars. James Swallow was other writer I never read before. I was pretty stoked about this book, the death guard being one of my favorite legions. This book was okay. Some cool parts. Too much senseless action and the story was more of a regular 40k book rather than a horus heresy novel. The characters were really flat and boring. very cliche characters."
"5 star. Now Fulgrim is one of the prefect horus heresy books written. Absolutely loved this novel. The power, the corruption, the sacrifice and the struggle was show to prefection in Fulgrim. One of the top three books in this series."
"2 stars. As Fulgrim was how a horus heresy (or any 40k book for that matter) book should be written, this book was the absolute oppisite. The subject wasn't bad nor was the writing, but this felt like it could have been a 10 or 20 page prologue or short story, not a 400+ page novel."
"4 stars. This book is weird because i think my expectations kind of out ruled how good the book really was. I mean, come on, Abnett and the Alpha Legion? And when I was finished I was a little disappointed. Then I started to think about it, about the legion and the way Abnett wrote it. It was a good idea. A good way to show what the Alpha Legion was all about."
"3 1/2 stars. This is the sequel to Descent of Angels. while it's better than it's predecessor, it's still feels like a boring 40k novel that could have been told in a 10 or 20 page prologue or/and chapter, or maybe even a short story. The very very ending is really cool though."
"1 star. This book was aweful. Pointless. Pure Pointless. I actually stopped read this book half was through. A month later I picked it back up and finished it. And I wish I didn't. Dumb characters and a typical shoot 'em up bang bang 40k novel. I hope J. Swallow stops writing Horus Heresy novels. I don't know why the rating on this book is so high."
"5 stars. After reading the god awful 'Nemesis' I was a little hesitant to pick up the next installment. I've read some stuff from ADB (the author) and it was pretty good. Still. I finally picked it up and I am so glad I did. This is one of the best HH novels out there. Very very impressed with this book. I hope he contributes more to the HH."
