Horus Heresy series and other Warhammer 40k

T. Harris
The list author says: "The Horus Heresy is the "Darth Vader" saga of the 40k universe. Told right it's one of the best stories I've ever read. Told wrong it's not just bad, it's torture. This is a list of the Horus Heresy novels in order and what I think about them, plus some other 40k books that are good reads."
False Gods: The Heresy Takes Root (The Horus Heresy)
False Gods: The Heresy Takes Root (The Horus Heresy)
"5 Stars.  G. McNeil is other one of my favorite writers in the 40k universe.  This book is spot on, great sequel to Horus Rising."
Galaxy in Flames (Horus Heresy)
Galaxy in Flames (Horus Heresy)
"4 stars.  This was the first book i read by Ben Counter.  While it wasn't bad (not even close) the quality of writing went down.  This book suffered from a lot of stupid senseless action.  It's something a lot of 40k books suffer from."
The Flight of the Eisenstein (Horus Heresy)
The Flight of the Eisenstein (Horus Heresy)
"3 stars.  James Swallow was other writer I never read before.  I was pretty stoked about this book, the death guard being one of my favorite legions.  This book was okay.  Some cool parts.  Too much senseless action and the story was more of a regular 40k book rather than a horus heresy novel.  The characters were really flat and boring.  very cliche characters."
Fulgrim (Horus Heresy)
Fulgrim (Horus Heresy)
"5 star.  Now Fulgrim is one of the prefect horus heresy books written.  Absolutely loved this novel.  The power, the corruption, the sacrifice and the struggle was show to prefection in Fulgrim.  One of the top three books in this series."
Descent of Angels: Loyalty and Honour (The Horus Heresy)
Descent of Angels: Loyalty and Honour (The Horus Heresy)
"2 stars.  As Fulgrim was how a horus heresy (or any 40k book for that matter) book should be written, this book was the absolute oppisite.  The subject wasn't bad nor was the writing, but this felt like it could have been a 10 or 20 page prologue or short story, not a 400+ page novel."
Horus Heresy: Legion
Horus Heresy: Legion
"4 stars.  This book is weird because i think my expectations kind of out ruled how good the book really was.  I mean, come on, Abnett and the Alpha Legion?  And when I was finished I was a little disappointed.  Then I started to think about it, about the legion and the way Abnett wrote it.  It was a good idea.  A good way to show what the Alpha Legion was all about."
Battle for the Abyss: My Brother, My Enemy (The Horus Heresy)
Battle for the Abyss: My Brother, My Enemy (The Horus Heresy)
"1 star.  I really hope B. Counter will not write anymore horus heresy books.  This book was pointless and boring.  An eye rolling waste of time.  stay clear of this book."
Horus Heresy: Mechanicum
Horus Heresy: Mechanicum
"3 1/2 stars.  This was good, but not great.  I think why I didn't really like this is because of the subject matter.  It was a cool concept, but one I wasn't really interested in."
Fallen Angels (The Horus Heresy)
Fallen Angels (The Horus Heresy)
"3 1/2 stars.  This is the sequel to Descent of Angels.  while it's better than it's predecessor, it's still feels like a boring 40k novel that could have been told in a 10 or 20 page prologue or/and chapter, or maybe even a short story.  The very very ending is really cool though."
Horus Heresy: Tales of Heresy (Warhammer 40,000 Novels: Horus Heresy)
Horus Heresy: Tales of Heresy (Warhammer 40,000 Novels: Horus Heresy)
"4 stars.  This a collection of short stories.  Most of the stories are worth the read, some not so much."
A Thousand Sons (Horus Heresy)
A Thousand Sons (Horus Heresy)
"5 stars.  Just like fulgrim, this is how a HH Novel should written.  One of the best in the series, if not the best."
Nemesis (Horus Heresy)
Nemesis (Horus Heresy)
"1 star.  This book was aweful.  Pointless.  Pure Pointless.  I actually stopped read this book half was through.  A month later I picked it back up and finished it.  And I wish I didn't.  Dumb characters and a typical shoot 'em up bang bang 40k novel.  I hope J. Swallow stops writing Horus Heresy novels.  I don't know why the rating on this book is so high."
Horus Heresy: First Heretic
Horus Heresy: First Heretic
"5 stars.  After reading the god awful 'Nemesis' I was a little hesitant to pick up the next installment.  I've read some stuff from ADB (the author) and it was pretty good.  Still.  I finally picked it up and I am so glad I did.  This is one of the best HH novels out there.  Very very impressed with this book.  I hope he contributes more to the HH."
Prospero Burns (Horus Heresy)
Prospero Burns (Horus Heresy)
"3 1/2 stars: This book was okay.  The First 150 pages was kind of boring.  expected a little more from Abnett."
The Age of Darkness (Horus Heresy)
The Age of Darkness (Horus Heresy)
"3 stars.  This is a collection of short stories.  Some of the stories are really good and other not so much.  Go figure."
The Outcast Dead (Horus Heresy)
The Outcast Dead (Horus Heresy)
"4 1/2 stars.  very cool look at what is happening on Terra.  McNeill, once again does a great job."
Deliverance Lost (Horus Heresy)
Deliverance Lost (Horus Heresy)
"3 stars.  Not the best HH novel, but not the worst.  I thought Thorpe did a great job dealing with the HH as a whole, but the characters in this book were very flat and dull."
Horus Heresy: Know No Fear
Horus Heresy: Know No Fear

For The Emperor: A Ciaphas Cain Novel
For The Emperor: A Ciaphas Cain Novel
"4 1/2 stars.  This book along with the series is worth checking out.  I don't know how many books are in the series, but I made it to book three and then it started to get a little redundant."
