Fantasy & Sci-Fi Books for Adult Harry Potter Fans

Angela
The list author says: "I love young-adult fantasy and science fiction books--they're lively, imaginative, and, most importantly, fun. Though enjoyable, I read fast and usually finish this type of book in a matter of days (or hours in some cases). Thus, I am left searching for something new to read or I just re-read my favourites (this is the case with Harry Potter). I've tried switching to adult books in hopes that they'd last me longer, but I find many of the adult fantasy/sci-fi books I've read to be too serious and pretentious for my taste. Though on rare occasion, I will come across an adult book that captures my imagination as much as my beloved children's books. The following list is a compilation of my favourite children and adults' fantasy and sci-fi books. Hopefully they will suffice as an alternative to Harry Potter."
The Golden Compass, Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition (His Dark Materials, Book 1)(Rough-cut)
The Golden Compass, Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition (His Dark Materials, Book 1)(Rough-cut)
"Genre: Fantasy-Young Adult I love Lyra, the main character in this book; she's sort of a tomboy/thrill-seeker. Also, unlike most young-adult books, the storyline was unpredictable, so I was glued to the book.  Luckily, there are 2 more books in the series (His Dark Materials) that kept me occupied after I quickly devoured this one."
The Subtle Knife, Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition (His Dark Materials, Book 2)(Rough-cut)
The Subtle Knife, Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition (His Dark Materials, Book 2)(Rough-cut)
"Genre: Fantasy-Young Adult The follow-up to "The Golden Compass". I thought Lyra was awesome, but the new character introduced in this book is just as captivating. The worlds Pullman creates in this book are incredible though believable."
The Amber Spyglass, Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition (His Dark Materials, Book 3)(Rough-cut)
The Amber Spyglass, Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition (His Dark Materials, Book 3)(Rough-cut)
"Genre: Fantasy-Young Adult The third and last book in the His Dark Materials series and definitely the best. This book had a more adult tone than the other 2, but was amazing nonetheless."
The Hunger Games (Book 1)

Wizard's First Rule (Sword of Truth)
"Adult Fantasy. This is the first in  a very long series called Sword of Truth. Wizards, dragons different races of magical people -covers most fantasy themes. I would only recommend the beginning books of the series--the end books lost their magical charm for me."
