The list author says: "I'm not sure who enjoys storytime more - me or my 4 year old daughter. I found many books from other listmanias so thought I'd put one together for those with our silly sense of humor. Whether you enjoy quirky humor or books with a beautiful message, there is something on this list for you."
"A very sweet story and a crowd pleaser to boot! I can only have 40 items on this list and found new ones (new to me)from Don Freeman "Dandelion" "Pet of the Met" "Norman the Doorman" and "Manuelo the Playing Mantis" all are wonderful!!"
"It holds my 4 year olds interest and has fun facts about Presidents. Illustrations are great and she is now walking around saying "Abe Lincoln was the tallest president and the ugliest" ha ha! A new favorite in our house."
"My daughter's favorite! She has it memorized and every time we read, she still seems suprised at the end when the dog is wearing Mr Pine's glasses. Another big hit at our house is Mr Pine's Purple House - it is also a great book to check out."
"This book is GREAT! Every little girl (if they have a pretty good attention span-b/c it is a little longer than most pic books)should have this book read to them. It is in my top 5 favorite books and my daughter loves it too."
"I love the whole idea of this story. It is a chapter book with very short chapters so we were able to read this in 2 nights and it kept my 4 year olds attention the whole time. It is a charming story about a little girl and her dollhouse. Like Toy Story, the dolls come alive - but just one special day of the year."
"We don't have this version with the cd but we have the story that you can buy used. It will be worth the search b/c this is a really great story. It is a story of a younger boy who loses his treasured stuffed dog and the older sister who shows caring and generosity to get it back."
"This is a great book that reminds us that new places are always fun and exciting but in the end there is no place like home. The illustrations (Doris Burn) are great! The children decide to move away to various places and each time they move they take a little memento from where they've been. My daughter loves this story and I do too."
"My daughter has loved this book since the day we got it. In it, you get the little girls point of view during a day of errands with her Mom. Little girls will love this book and Moms too. What would be considered a normal day in an adults eyes is portrayed as a day full of wonderment in a childs."
"This book is amazing! It explains (in rhyme and gorgeous artwork) about the chapel that stood between the twin towers. It teaches in a kid-friendly way about what happened on 9-11 and reminds us that big or small we can help make a difference."
"A fun chapter book that delights both me and my daughter. Maybelle the cockroach and her friend Henry the flea are sidekicks that you would never imagine love reading about but we certainly did and think you most likely will too. Also check out Maybelle Goes to Tea if you enjoy this book!"
"A girl dreads visiting her Aunt b/c her house is "just so" and she's not allowed to touch things. She is surprised to find that Great Uncle Mangus is also there. He's the Uncle that everyone would love to have. The author has such a way of writing that you feel that you're a part of their adventure."
"My daughter is forever saying "okie, dokie artichokie" so when I found this book I had to get it. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the moral of the story. It teaches/reminds us how important communication and what happens when people just assume without asking. It's a story of a Monkey and a Giraffe who are neighbors. It's a story that I think all young children will love."
"This is a book that I think would be in my top ten. A goose that thinks she is smart b/c she carries a book and all the fun that happens b/c her friends follow all of her crazy advice. Also from this author..."Donkey Donkey" is a book you don't want to miss - teaches us we're perfect just the way we are."
"This story is so well told and held my daughters attention (long story for a picture book)The illustrations are just as wonderful. Fun & entertaining with a message of being happy with who you are. It's a Super Duper Hullabalooper of a story!"
