The list author says: "The basic concept of a Bug out Bag is a good idea to have for emergencies in any type of disaster Scenario. Zombie survival is a good catch all for any type of WROL (without the rule of law) situation. When WROL happens to us due to whatever reason you can come up with we need to be prepared to defend ourselves and our loved ones. For zombie survival there are the additional issues of contamination and further spread of the infection. Here is my list of basics tools and ideas for my personal 72 hour emergency bag.
Find yourself a good solid pack that will hold all of the gear you need. I will not be recommending certain pieces of gear like a specific pack as that is up to personal preferences. As well I will not be including items that are being carried only as personal defense weapons. Figure out what weapons work for you and go from there. Remember for firearms bullets cannot be reused and are heavy. Whatever gear you have wrap in ziploc style bags to keep it dry and usable."
"get out of the elements and to rest comfortably. Hennessy makes a very good 4 seasons system for their hammocks so they can be used in all weather types. add a good sleeping bag. Get some earplugs as well when working in shifts and a small group. Hanging your hammock 20 feet up in a tree will get you out of the range of zombies."
"Compact easy to carry food. Meals ready to eat, Datrex food bars, Datrex water packs and similar easy to carry food. Enough food for a minimum of three days. Field strip the MREs pulling out the pieces that are not extra and pack them smaller in ziplocs."
"Clean dry feet are very important as well. If your feet do not work right you are pretty much toast. Change socks often and clean your feet whenever possible. A good liner sock will help prevent blisters as well."
"A good compass and maps of the local areas around you will make setting up rally points, fall back locations, caching of equipment and safe zone setup much easier. Having a clue that you are soon to run into a population center would be nice as well. Since that means larger concentrations of zombies."
