This was an interesting documentary. Funny, sad, and fascinating.

An individual, John, loses his leg in a small airplane crash. His father dies due to the crash and other family members were injured. John wants to keep his now amputated limb, but have it defleshed, as part of a memorial to his father--he still feels guilty about the crash, though there was nothing he could do.

It gets very interesting when, due to nonpayment of a storage facility fee, his amputated limb (now mummified--the hospital would not deflesh it and he had attempted to preserve it) ended up in the possession of another individual due to the sale of the contents of the storage area. The leg was in a smoker. The new "owner" will not give the leg back and attempts to become famous due to his find. A legal battle ensues.

This film explores the emotional impact on the family members of the plane crash and the path that John has taken in his life, as well as, the new "owner" of the leg and the impacts on his family due to his decisions and desire to be famous.

"Finders Keepers" is an incredible documentary you don't want to miss. Without giving away any spoilers, the film centers around the discovery of a human leg found in a grill. Set in Maiden, NC, the people interviewed in this film are so authentic, there is absolutely no way Hollywood could have produced anything as comparable - or as entertaining.
The film is hilarious, yet poignant and the ending is a perfect example of irony at its best.
"Finders Keepers" is rated R for its language.

Absolutely the darling of Doc Fest here in San Francisco, it was a personal - and crowd favorite. The less you know going in the better. For me, the true beauty of the film - in addition to having a huge dose of both humor and humanity - was how I found myself getting a tad judgmental and then being reminded not to judge a book by its cover. An A+

A dynamic, entertaining and thoughtful look at addiction and family. I really enjoyed this film. Thank you to the characters who let themselves be observed.... Interesting that that was also part of addictions.... But still we see vulnerability. Also thank you to the filmmakers for tastefully showing us the story. Well done.

Excellent documentary/movie!! This is for real people! John and his family were our neighbors growing up. We had The Balls Creek Film Festival at Randy's Pickin' Parlor on Oct 17, and it was a huge success!! John even brought his leg!!! I highly recommend this movie!!

The movie was much more than a film about arguing over an amputated leg. I wish both families the best and I want to thank them for this heart warming story. It is a five star documentary as far as I'm concerned!

This, by the far, one of the strangest stories I've heard in a long time, but incredibly well presented in this documentary. Although most will probably rent or buy this due to the custody argument of the leg, I found the stories of the two main men to be as, if not more compelling. Psychologically, socioeconomically, socially, family/parenting issues and dynamics, jealousy and envy. as well as legal issues over property and possession are woven deeply in this narrative, but are all clearly documented, if one just looks closely enough.

On a separate level, as a search and rescue/recovery (SAR) specialist who works in/with cadaver dogs (aka, HRD: human remains detection dogs), this was an also fascinating look at possession of human remains, the specifics and vagueness of state and federal law for possession, and the ethics involved. I have recommended this documentary as suggested viewing for both SAR groups, particularly canine, and for forensics groups.

Funny, heart felt, teaches about healing and forgiveness. It sounds extremely weird and grotesque but it's a true beautiful story my husband loved it and I'm not into mushy movies. Best independent film I have ever seen, going to buy the movie.
