Good television even though the series does not closely adhere to Bernard Cornwell's books. Props and special effects are pretty realistic though there is a bit too much of firing rifles from the hip. In episode 2, Sharpe's Battle, actor Oliver Cotton's portrayal of French Brigadier Loup is eerily reminiscent of Kenneth Mars' Inspector Kemp in Young Frankenstein. He even has a bad eye. I kept half expecting the bad eye to change sides of the face or some other whacky thing to occur. But of course the Sharpe series played it straight.
