Just As Good As The Original Classic!
Verified purchase
‘101 Dalmatians’ was one of my favorites growing up. I preferred the live action remake over the classic animated version though. I still do to this day.

As an artist, I do appreciate the classic animation for the artwork and animation style. Since the drawings were Xeroxed onto the animation cells, it made the movie interesting with the rough edges of the outlines.

Glenn Close is Amazing as Cruella De Vil! I can’t see anyone else playing that role but her. She brought Cruella to life! I recently saw Glenn on the Jonathan Ross Show and she talked about how a mother stopped her in the streets and the mother told her son “This lady is Cruella.” Glenn was surprised and the child started to cry. Even though Glenn was dressed in normal everyday clothes.

The script was very well written, Glenn Close’s wardrobe for Curella is stunning! And of course, the puppies are adorable! It remains one of my favorite live action films Disney has made.

Was excited to get this product, it didn't state it would not play in different region DVD players. So i purchased the DVD, i get the product and it wont't play thankfully i spoke with Amazon customer service who reimbursed me no problem. There needs to be a description or warning that the films will not play in Specific region DVD players.

Good family film

So, the original animated feature is still my favorite and way better but for a live-action adaptation this is pretty good. Glen close makes a good Cruella though she feels quite different than the animated character. It's still a very fun film to watch with the family especially if your family loves animals... mine does. My son just loves puppies so this was especially delightful for him to watch. They stay fairly close to the animated version but of course we don't hear the dogs thoughts or experience them talking with each other which gives a slightly different feel to the animated versus live-action versions. I also loved seeing Hugh Laurie as Jasper though he brings a completely different feel to that character as well.

can not play on US dvd players
Verified purchase
Wanted the movie for my daughter. But this does not play in US dvd players. So it was a waste of money. I looked for the region it would work in before I bought it . Didn't list any. Looked at the reviews below and they were "viewed in the United States", so I assumed this played on US players. Nope. Hopefully Disney will bring it back to the public, but they said they didn't know when I contacted them.

Nice!!!

I hear Disney is thinking of remaking this film. I think that is a mistake. I like how the narrative was modernized for a 90s audience. I also love how the dogs don't talk and they aren't CGI. I feel a remake will be utterly crappy in today's PC politico BS spot light.

LIVE-ACTION REMAKE IS PERFECT COMPANION TO ORIGINAL ANIMATED FILM.

John Hughes' ("Sixteen Candles", "The Breakfast Club," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off") live-action remake (directed by Stephen Herek) of this beloved Disney animated classic is long on slapstick and other types of physical humor. It's easy to see Glenn Close's portrayal of evil dog-napping Cruella De Vil as a Disney variation of her manipulative, scary (and best-remembered) roles in "Fatal Attraction" and "Dangerous Liaisons." Glenn Close keeps Cruella close to her original cartoon origins, going deliciously and delightfully over the top. Clearly, Cruella is another Disney Witch.
To emphasize this point, there is a scene where Cruella, draped in lion skin, gazes at her reflection and says, "Mirror Mirror on the Wall, Who is the Fairest One Of All?" Hugh Laurie (of TV's "House") portrays one of Cruella's criminal cronies. It is great fun to watch assorted animals (dogs, racoons, rabbits, birds, pigs, etc.) rule over evil, but stupid, humans who attempt to kill or abuse them. Joan Plowright ("Nanny") and the always dependable Jeff Daniels ("Roger Darling", human pet of Dalmation Dog Pongo) are featured as two of the more kind humans.
I'm very glad Disney has released both the original animated and live-action versions (Which I have wanted for a LONG time) of "101 Dalmations" on DVD. If you are a fan of the original animated version, you will likely enjoy the live-action remake as well. The two versions perfectly compliment each other. My favorite line of dialogue here comes towards the end. In the police wagon, Cruella screams at her three criminal cohorts, "Outwitted by a bunch of animals! You three have just one the Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in the Morons Olympics!!" Jasper then asks, "Who won the Gold?"
The Sequel, "102 Dalmations", however, should be AVOIDED, by ALL means.

I absolutely love these two movies!!! I had them on VHS, but when we moved, we got rid of our VCR and, therefore, our VHS tapes. This was on my Christmas "wish list", but no one bought them for me, SSSOOOO, I treated myself!!! My kids and I love them. They were in like-new condition when I received them and the seller shipped them so quickly, I had to duck...LOL!! Anyway, 2 GREAT movies in GREAT condition at a GREAT price!!! I highly recommend :)
