Not suitable for children!! I would give it NO stars if I could instead of one star.

This should not just be rated as a PG movie on Amazon!! It is not family or children-friendly. It would be fine for teenagers but is not appropriate for children. We only watched the beginning and couldn't go any further. My son was visibly upset and I wish I hadn't assumed that just because Amazon Prime Video listed it as family friendly and PG-rated that is was suitable for children. It is too scary, the language is inappropriate and is too sexually suggestive. It is really traumatic when the angry old man has a heart attack and dies, falling right on top of the boy. The parents of the children and babysitter are depicted as being either horribly stupid or callous and uncaring and negligent to the point of child abuse.

I don't know if the movie gotten any better or had a happy after all ending but it wasn't worth watching to find out. I wish we could take back the 10 minutes of our time we invested in it and the horrible feeling it left in our minds. This movie may suit some people and that is fine but I do not recommend it as a family movie or as suitable for children under age 12. Just my opinion.

No children appropriate
Verified purchase
Not children appropriate not because it was scary but there are several scenes with the babysitter alone and with her boyfriend that were just gross and weird in kind of a sadistic way. Turned it off after 30 min or so. Left a bad taste in all of our mouths. Too bad seemed like it would be fun.

My kids liked this movie but I there are unnecessary scenes/lines in it that I skipped every time they watched it. Not scary stuff...parts that are a little too adult..like the babysitter's drunk boyfriend coming on too strong and then getting mad at her and calling her "prude"

Beginning scared 5 1/2 yr old, had to stop

My 5 almost 6 yr old (who like the first 3ish Harry potters but then thinks they are getting to"scary"...this as reference...but also has watched ALL marvel movies with no concern) Did NOT like the beginning of this movie, some death and sem realistic haunting (which is a total oxymoron I know) scenes made him pretty quickly veto it and not want to keep watching it. Surprisingly even my 9 yr old boy wasn't into it and agreed we should stop.
He agreed it was scary but of course wouldn't say thats why he thought we should stop. Til next yr I guess. As an adult I thought it could be good, but agree the beginning seemed to set a weird tone of death, haunting and mean babysitters..
I mean for a kids movie and all...little wierd

Entertaining movie with a glaring mistake at the end.

Spoiler alert ahead.
Great animated movie. Recommended for older kids. Scary, funny, good story.
Loses one star for the ending though. After the Monster House trashes the neighborhood as it chases the boys, the girl, and the old man, there is no trace of the mass destruction after the house is blown up. The two boys go trick or treating in a perfectly intact neighborhood that was moments before a wreck. Oh well. Still highly recommended.

My Grandchildren simply loved this movie. Theywere delighted it was in real 3 D. I am always looking for 3D movies. They are hard to fine. The picture was great and vibrant. The only Con, was it was only a one disc movie. Most have a Blue Ray disc and digital with Special attractions.

Sure to be a Classic

This movie is destined to be an animated classic. It is very well done. Thankfully, it excludes current pop culture references that instantly date so many animated films. This one will stand the test of time. Good for children of all ages, and the young at heart. Recommended!

A little humor with a lot of spooky, scary things

At the end of the movie, my son looked to see what I was watching.

I asked him if he remembered when we saw this at the theater.

He said, "Yes. I remember you couldn't watch the last 10-15 minutes. You got up and waited for me while I watched the rest of the movie."

His Mom still thinks the end is still scary. 😮

Terrific animation, voice acting, plot, and scary horror movie.
