The app description above does a good job of describing the game in its entirety: connect a chain of 3 or more matching animal faces by swiping your finger, there are 3 modes of play, and OpenFeint allows you to submit your high scores to compare globally with other players.

The game is challenging, colorful and fairly addictive for young kids (starting at age 5?) to adults; you could easily end up playing this an hour or more past your bedtime. Game play is smooth, no lagging, and completely stable in my experience. Sounds are top notch, including the soothing background African jungle noises. The game responded accurately to the swiping of my big thumb, even though I'm not wild about this type of touchscreen game, in which your finger covers key elements, making it hard to see what you're doing.

If you think larger animal tiles would be easier to select or view, try the non-HD Safari! version which is also free today (click this link: Safari!). It's identical except there are 6 X 6 tiles versus a 7 X 7 grid.

Every time you create a chain, the chain disappears, the animals above drop down to fill in the vacant spots, and new random animals fill in the vacated spots at the top. This is where strategy comes in - maneuver animals by taking away chains below, and thereby creating new longer chains. This is more easily practiced in Endless mode as opposed to the frenzied time pressure of the other modes.

The modes of play cater to two types of people: "Endless" mode for those who don't like time constraints, e.g. who like regular chess, and "Survivor" and "Time Attack" modes for those who like the thrill of time limits, e.g. who like speed chess.

Not much to say here other than it's a pretty basic game at heart -- connect as many matching animal faces as you can. Don't get it twisted though. Survivor mode is where it's at. You can find yourself playing for a long stretch and lose track of time. Also, the graphics are bright and colorful so this is a game that will definitely keep your kid(s) or even YOU interested during long car rides, long waits at the DMV, dentist etc. Overall, I give it a 5 out 5.

Thanks, Amazon FAotD!!!

I downloaded this as Amazon's free app of the day, tried it out, and the next thing I knew, an hour had passed. If you play it in Endless mode, it provides a stress-free way to pass the time while, say, waiting in line. You can always make it more challenging by trying to make really long chains - but only if you feel like it. Game works in portrait mode. Looks great on my Asus tablet (no surprise - it says "HD" right there in the name). Only thing I'm irked about is why it needs network access. I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I guess a firewall is in my near future. I guess after today, what most people want to know is if I would pay $1.29 for it, and my answer is "very likely".

This is a very nifty little fun time waster. The slow samba music is soothing (really!). This installed and works without a hitch on my Le Pan TC 970 9.7-Inch Multi-Touch LCD Google Android Tablet PC.

Here's some quick documentation of my specific platform so if you have same (or similar) should run with no problems.

My tablet's specs are :

Operating system: Android 2.2 (Froyo)
CPU: TI OMAP 3630, ARM Cortex A8 at 1 GHz
Memory: 512MB Flash DDR2 RAM
Screen: 9.7" (4:3) Capacitive Multi-touch LCD Screen XVGA LCD, 1024 x 768 Resolution

The HD version I'm running is quite pleasant on the eyes as well.

I ended up getting rid of this game after having played it a few times. this game is a knock off of sort of a million other games like bubbles. it is fun but it doesnt hold my interest for long.

This may be silly, but with the cute animals and the theme I just dont feel like it crosses over to both men and women. I couldnt imagine my boyfriend playing with these little baby looking animations. on top of that, after a while I sort of felt juvenile playing this game , it is more geared towards children in my opinion.

its not a bad game, dont get me wrong, and the 10 minutes or so i messed around with it were ok, i just wouldnt have paid money for this game.

This game is simple fun. I am probably out of the average age range, I'd say it works great for even younger children that can pick out the matching animals. Its an app I enjoy enough to add it to my new phone!

This is like Bejeweled for kids. I put Safari! HD on my smartphone and let my niece play it during a drive to keep her busy. Very colorful game and the matches are easy to find. This is not a complex game to play. The animal faces make it easier to younger gamers to recognize. It even has a white line that tracks along the screen to help you make your match. There are three modes of play: Survivor, Time Attack and Endless.

This is a great game for the little ones as it only takes two seconds to learn how to play and you can immediately hop in and start playing. The pictures would be fun for the younger generation, too, and the controls are easy and intuitive. I did find it fun but after a bit the replayability went down for me. But this is one that I see kids enjoying for a lot longer.
