Product Description

From the Manufacturer

For over two decades i play., Inc. has been researching children's health issues to make safer feeding accessories that come in contact with babies' mouths and foods. Due to recent safety issues in children's toys we saw a need for toys free from potentially harmful toxins. So in 2008 we launched a new line of PVC, phthalate, BPA and nitrosamine free toys. Inside Baby: Pregnancy and early childhood are critical times in babies' lives because they are growing and developing so rapidly. During this time they are vulnerable to elements in their environment, and parents should protect them as much as possible from exposure to potentially harmful substances. The first priority for growing babies is to make sure everything babies put inside their mouth is healthy, safe and promotes the development of strong immune system. • PVC free and Phthalate free: PolyVinyl Chloride (PVC) is a hard plastic that requires harsh chemical softeners, such as phthalates, to make it appropriate for use in soft plastic baby toys such as squirty toys. In 2003 we discovered that phthalates were shown to disrupt reproductive functions and cause other developmental problems, so we launched a line of toys free from PVC and phthalates. • BPA free: Bisphenol-A (BPA) is used in hard, clear plastics sometimes used in baby toys to prevent breakage. In 2006 we learned that BPA also disrupts reproductive functions and causes other developmental problems, so we added a line of BPA free toys to our line. • Nitrosamine free: Nitrosamines are found in latex products such as some infant teethers. They have been shown to cause cancer in many animals, so all our teethers and soothers are nitrosamine free.

These are super cute, but they quickly start to smell like mildew, even if allowed to dry out fully between uses. I have to throw them in the wash frequently, and the smell recurs quickly.

My son LOVED these in the bath from about 4 months on. He is now 15 months and still likes them, especially sucking on them in the bath. As others described, they aren't sewn together well, and if you don't regularly launder them (I put them in a mesh lingerie bag in the wash AND the dryer) including drying them thoroughly, they will smell like mildew. They are just a sponge with terry cloth on them. If you put one in the bath at a time, rotating their use, you cut down on laundry waiting time and they might last longer. Each one has a convenient hanging string loop at the top - easy to hang on your shower caddy, etc to temporarily dry them.

I got these for my 7-month old for bath-time. She loves them, but would prefer to suck the bathwater out of them than play. For now, we're using these for non bath-time toys (the lobster keeps her busy on the changing table) until she's more interested in splashing and squeezing than sucking them dry. They are nice, though, and I look forward to that stage so we can play together!

We do like these as a regular plush toy for our son. However, we stopped using them in the bath as they soak up a lot of water. We were afraid that bacteria might start growing in them as it takes a long time for them to dry out even when you wring them out.

These arrived and were just disappointing. They were each wrapped in sealed plastic but they seemed dirty or worn some how. Two had slight stains that had nothing to do with being "organic cotton". I hope the ones I used for the gift will work out okay, it was just a disappointing purchase.
