I live on rural Nevada, about 80 miles from the main antenna on one of the elevated Sierra regions broadcasting NPR. The sound is clear and crisp, with minimal extraneous noise. I also own an Apple device (Nano), and it has a constant buzz-crackle in the background. The device does pick up nearby electrical signals in the house but only special ones, like my wife's art grinder just above me. Perhaps most important is that I get at least three times the battery life with FM than with music and much better battery life than with my Nano playing just FM.
