In 2018 there were approximately *437,283 (442,995 in 2017) children in foster care, 52% male and 48% female. In Georgia, there are approximately 14,000. 48 female & 52 male. Students who have been in foster care are far less likely to graduate from college than the rest of the general population. Only 3 percent of foster kids make it to college, and even fewer graduate.
Our vision is to create lasting memories for Georgia’s foster children, including those in college. I remember when my daughter was in college that I would send her care packages and how she loved each package. It’s important that the support doesn’t go away when they are 18. I know my daughter still needed my support at that age.
Our goal is to send monthly care packages to ten foster youths in Gwinnett, Dekalb and Fulton County. Packages will be unique to each youth, a special package will be sent for their birthday and at the end of the fall semester leading up to final exams.
These young adults are really defying the odds, and we want to give them an added boost to their confidence.
