The Hanger is a store in the CASA of the Pikes Peak Region office where local foster teens can shop for donated clothing and accessories free of charge. It's a simple concept that most of us take for granted, but for a foster kid, being able to choose and wear your own clothes builds self-esteem.
In addition to shopping, teens have opportunities to help operate the store which provides them with valuable work experience. Many foster teens have no job experience, making it difficult to find employment when they turn 18 and age out of the system.
The Hanger is program of CASA of the Pikes Peak Region. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of the Pikes Peak Region is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization serving El Paso County and Teller County that trains and supervises volunteers to represent the best interests of our most vulnerable citizens – victims of child abuse, neglect, and severe domestic conflict. CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court and in the community. The desired result is that children are placed into safe, loving homes where they can thrive.
