Jumped on a Prime Day Deal to get this pc now that crypto crashed and gpu’s are more available. Unfortunately it arrived defective. The computer turned on, fans and rgb all came on, but nothing on the monitor. Beyond the obvious thing of trying different dp/hdmi cables and ports, and trying another monitor, iBuyPower has a list of troubleshooting steps for this issue on their website (and a YouTube video, which is a plus if you’re not comfortable working inside the case). The steps are: try different stick/slot combinations with the ram, try reseating the graphics card, and then try replacing the battery on the motherboard. None of these steps fixed the problem for me. What’s worse, this all happened on a Saturday, and their customer service is only open on weekdays. So after waiting until Monday, calling from work, and sitting on hold for over an hour, I spoke to tech support, and they said the graphics card was probably damaged during shipping (they pack some foam in the case to help support it, but those gpu connections are really not designed for anything more than sitting on a desk).
The options they gave me were:
1. Pay for a new graphics card, and get a refund after I mailed mine back. But there was still a risk that the motherboard may have also been damaged, so a new gpu wasn’t guaranteed to solve the issue.
2. Send the whole computer back to iBuyPower to do a full repair. This would take 2-3 weeks plus shipping.
3. Return the computer through Amazon and get a replacement.
Obviously I went with the third option. Took about an extra week after all of this to get the computer running, but the new one works great so far.
Doing some additional research, I found that this is an extremely common problem with these computers. I really wish they would just ship the computer with the graphics card uninstalled, because it seems like that would prevent this. From reading up on other people having similar issues, this might also come down to what brand of motherboard and graphics card you happen to get. The first defective computer had gigabyte-brand parts, which many other people reported problems with. The second computer had MSI parts, and it started up without issue.
Ultimately, their tech support and Amazon’s support were nice enough about it (although it’s pretty annoying that iBuyPower doesn’t have tech support outside normal work hours during the week), and I did eventually get a better-than-average pc out of this. Just be aware that this sort of problem is not unusual, and it may be more of a headache to get your new computer working than you expect.
As far as fan noise, it is VERY loud, fan speeds aren't even high, it's just like a white noise machine. Not sure why.
FPS average on low settings with the games I play (12700KF and 3070TI)
Valorant - 350-400FPS
Overwatch 2: 200-300FPS
Call of Duty Warzone: 140FPS
Display to HDMI's do NOT work on this GPU. I am currently waiting on an HDMI 2.0 cable to connect my 3rd monitor.
Luckily the machine on the whole worked. Plus I had bought 16GB additional RAM, so I'm not left with an 8GB system, but still, huge points off for that.
It's a great rig (i7 12700kf + 3070 ti, oh my) and I'd of given it 5 stars were it not for coming with RAM rattling in the case.
