I would recommend this product.
listen to music while running, and those who don’t. I consider myself the
former. I’m one of those who run with heart-thumping beats in my ear just to
feel like I’m in some kind of music video (anyone else here with yo homeboy?).
I’ve been running with my JBL Reflect Mini for a while now,
but mannnnn. Those earbuds make my ears feel really sore after a while. So I
was in the market for a pair of earbuds that would give me fairy godmother-like
wings while conquering that 10K. A buddy of mine recommended the iClever BTH20
Sprint, so I decided to give it a try.
Let’s dish out the differences. The JBL and iClever both
have a lot in common, with sweat resistance, ear tips and what not. In terms of
sound quality, the JBLs have an overall more balanced sound, and the sound
clarity is top-notch. But the BTH20 wins on bass for sure, letting me blast
Alesso in all of its full glory. And the BTH20’s clarity is strong enough for
me to hold on to every word of Eminem’s amazing rambles.
And with the BTH20, those things are LIGHT. Like,
I-forgot-they-were-in-my-ear kind of light. Solves the sore ear problem
perfectly. They make me feel like I can go on forever. Or… for that one good
hour of running before my stamina dies on me.
The JBLs are a little pricey, but they give a nice, balanced
sound that’s great for your daily commute. But the iClever BTH20 Sprint is
perfect for sports, insanely affordable, has great clarity, and overall gives
the big league sports earbuds a run for their money. Pretty impressive for
earbuds that costs the price of 5 burritos.
I have been able to pair them with my iPhone & Apple Watch and even got a chance to work out with them as well. Great headphones overall.
Only thing I would change is that I wish they had the magnetic backs like many others do for hanging on you neck. Not worth docking a star though. Great noise cancellation and sound!
The original set that I received simply got past quality control...happens in every industry.
I am an amateur audiophile (I hear some things that most people don't perceive) and I am *not* a musician, but I do ask a lot from my gear. Admittedly, I don't know the music industry's nomenclature; I will try to make my points clear.
I tested the iClever against two other headphones: a Sony IR and an expensive ($250.00) wired set.
My testing: I listened via the iClever to the first piece of music (Metal). Then I put on the Sony and wrote down some notes. Then re-listened with the iClever and noted the differences. I repeated with the wired set. Then I listened to a recording of Beethoven's 5th that I know that I really appreciate following the same pattern.
The iClever beat the Sony, especially on the low end. It is comparable on the highs but the Sony lost some of the mids that the iClever reproduces well. The wired set was definitely superior over every frequency range. But, remember, it was $250.00! And the Sony was $125.00, several years ago.
I think that iClever has a customer for life!
I may get a little geeked-out saying this, but I am AMAZED with these! I have no idea how you can pack so much punch into such a little package. I have built my own speaker systems and played with the geometry and materials to get the sound that I wanted. If I'm not mistaken, the Bluetooth and the battery are in a "box" roughly 8mm by 4cm...it receives the signal, holds the charge and then the set reproduces the sound. A tiny battery-pack with pretty good life..especially for the size!!
Tip: I put on the set and listened to a known high quality recording.
I pressed in on each earbud and the fidelity increased. I played with that by releasing pressure on one ear and then the other noting the difference.
I then changed-out the rubber pieces that iClever sends, one ear at a time and pressed in on the buds again until there was virtually no difference. I ended with the large pieces giving me the highest fidelity.
By the way, I did test the iClever against a SoundPEATS BT set, but I didn't include it because I "hate" the design. It is the neckband-type. The earbud wires got caught on too many things. It got all twisted-up, chafed my neck and was a general PITA. The sound quality is pretty good but, again, I hate the design and did not want that to influence my review of the sound reproduction.
Conclusion: the iClever is certainly not the best headset that I have ever owned but they are the best at this price! Also, I paid almost as much for a set of wired earbuds and the iClever beats them hands-down. They stay in my ears while running, lifting weights, etc. and the sound reproduction is amazing for the price!! The only questions for me, now, is how long they will last and for how long will the battery keep its life.
Edit: I give this only 3 stars. Amazon keeps displaying 4stars even though I have repeatedly selected three and clicked on Submit: I tested them one night and the sound reproduction was actually quite good, they are comfortable, pair quickly and I liked them. The next day the Bluetooth link kept cutting in and out making it nearly impossible to understand a podcast. Using them while listening to music was irritating. I found that they worked flawlessly if I held my phone to my chest but they would cut out if the phone was in my pocket or on the side table 2' away. Then the the right channel stopped working about 50% of the time. So, I got a refund. Hope you have a better experience!
