Broken Isn't the End
Screens crack. Laptops slow. Batteries fail. Wear and tear is normal, but throwing away fixable stuff shouldn't be. Repair is better for your wallet and the environment. You don’t need to be a Genius to fix your electronics.
We take pride in our fix and upgrade kits. Every kit includes all the parts and tools you need to get the job done. And when we can't find a good tool for the job, we engineer a better solution.
You can fix it. We show you how. With iFixit Guides, Answers, Tools, and Parts, repair is easy. The only question is—what will you do with all the money you save?

The screwdriver handle is a 4mm hex nut driver, which was perfect for the graphics card I was taking apart. Unfortunately the driver is magnetic, which means it sucked a nut, so to speak. In other words, it picked up a hex nut and its magnetism trapped the nut in the hollow 4mm hex socket and nothing I could use would remove it.
I finally had the inspiration to use 2 Neodymium Hook Magnets - Each Holds up to 50 Pounds as a way to capture the tiny hex nut from the less powerful magnet. This worked well but I suggest you use a different 4mm hex nut driver that is not magnetized like this one is.
Apart from that, the items in the kit are high quality, as is the customer service from the ifixit company itself.
-Nice selection of bits and tools for the non-pro electronic tech. Should have everything I need for our Mac phones and laptops
-Hard case with thoughtful magnetic closure is nice
-Case lid doubles as a parts tray which is handy
-Tools and bits seem of adequate quality, not the best but adequate for the type of work they are expected to perform.
The not so good:
-Bit holder/driver is plastic not aluminum. I should have paid attention to other reviews but I assumed the bit driver was aluminum like in their larger bit set. To me, plastic screams cheap and I feel that Ifixit would have done a better service to their customers by including the aluminum driver. I understand including a plastic one in their 'one time use' kits, but not this more expensive one.
-The bit holding magnet in the driver is pretty weak, it could barley pick up the tiny featherlight screws I encountered (and dropped a couple). It worked, but just barely. I wonder about the lasting strength of the magnet over time.
-The magnets that hold the top and bottom case halves are pretty weak too. The halves are knocked out of alignment pretty easily. Not very secure.
All in all, a decent kit. The bit selection is great for the casual tinkerer, the tools are all of adequate quality, and the design is thoughtful. I just wish Ifixit didn't cheap out on the magnets and the plastic bit driver. Address both those issues and that's the difference between a 3 star and 5 star rating .
Here are my Pros and Cons:
- Affordable and complete
- It comes with the essential tools like spudgers (which from iFixit I've found them to be the best in quality), jimmy, suction cup (this one is the best suction cup I've bought).
- The case is rigid and the screw organizers are great!
- The bits seem to be very good steel material
* The screwdriver is feels very very cheap. It's a very light plastic.
* It says it has the essential bits but it is missing the iPhone Standoff bit.
+ If you can, buy the Aluminum Pro Screwdriver and the iPhone Standoff bit THEN you will have all the essential tools for iPhone repairs.
If you need to do Logic board swaps or repairs, I strongly suggest you to get the Aluminum pro driver and the Standoff bit from ifixit.com They are worth the money.
Update: I also used this kit to install a replacement battery into my iPhone 7 plus. I also bought the iOpener which is required to heat up the adhesive. I think this is the perfect toolkit for people who are interested in getting started in repair and don't want to buy one their more extensive kits. There are non-iFixit kits with more tools for the same price as this one, but they are probably of a lower quality. It's also a bonus to support iFixit, at least in my opinion.

This kit is actually well positioned for people like me who have bought so many screwdriver sets we have duplicate bits everywhere. This has the stuff you're unlikely to have.
The iFixit designed tools are actually pretty good.
The bits have been under my microscope and I must say are exceptionally poorly finished. These are good for casual, home gamer use only. If you're planning on using these regularly, look elsewhere. On the surface, they look fine and with careful, occasional use will serve you well. The screwdriver body feels really shoddy and I wouldn't trust it at all for more than again, occasional use. It's a shame the bits don't fit in my other screwdrivers. Is it gonna break on you? Nah, probably not if you're the target market which is the person who buys this kit to do a singular job cheaper than the cost of paying someone to do it and wants the potential to do similar jobs in the future. They might dig this out once a year. If you're looking for a daily use tool kit, look elsewhere.
4 stars because I think for the target market this isn't bad at all. It'll do the occasional job and the tolerances on the bits look fine. If you're used to decent quality tools, this is not for you and if you're planning on regular use, I'd look elsewhere.
Watch out for the fragile antenna cable and the fan power cord. As long as you take care, you’ll be fine.
I’ve upgraded two Mac Mini units with 32GB RAM in each using the kit and now I’m fully confident. Take your time and don’t rush anything.

It's a really nicely put together kit which will come in handy for all sorts, but essential if you're messing about with modern Apple stuff.
I liked this kit and would recomend it, however I would consider shopping around for the best price for an electronics tool kit as there are a lot out there, and iFixit is by no means the cheapest.
All I needed was replacement M3 5mm tape, + desired components and my 7 year old iMac has been given a new lease of life.
I've used to replace the battery/screen on my phone, replace the screen and battery on my laptop and as part of various odd jobs. Genuinely worth every penny.
