First and foremost, the Samsung galaxy s3 does fit in this, even with a standard TPU or low profile silicone case. I have a cruzerlite persona case on my S3 and it fit no problem. The mouth where the phone slides in is at the top and it's a little smaller than the S3 is but it stretches so getting it in, even with a case, was no issue. The mouth does flap back over and the earphone jack matches up perfectly. I was kind of hoping that there would be Velcro keeping the flap in place but there isn't. It may not be an issue but I just worry about it getting jerked with earphones plugged in and the jack getting damaged. I may just be paranoid though.
The fabric itself feels pretty good, I had it wrapped around my arm for a few minutes; it stayed in place and didn't feel uncomfortable. Not sure how it will be after a day of running though. I'll have to update later once its been in use.
One of two issues I have so far is that the front plastic is not stitched to holder. It's just glued to it which in my case, due to it being folded weird, caused me to get a slightly defective armband. The clear plastic screen was completely dethatched from the pink case on the left side. At first I thought it was the opening for the phone to slide in but once I opened it I realized that it was defective.
After looking at it a bit, I realized that the glue holding the pink case to the clear screen had just split from it being folded how it was. Because my g/f's birthday is this weekend, I didn't want to have to deal with a return/exchange so I decided to see if superglue would repair the issue before I got an exchange. It did and in fact, it holds much better than the manufacturers adhesive. I ran my finger along the edge of the clear plastic and rather easily the manufacturers adhesive starts to pull apart. Almost like the stretchy glue you'd find holding plastic merchandise packaging together that you can pull off without it leaving any residue. This may not be an issue with other phones but with the S3 and a case the pocket does stretch a little so I'm afraid that over time it could cause an issue with the default glue. But again, some superglue fixes it right up.
My other complaint is that the side volume buttons on the S3 or probably any other phones is inaccessible. So unless you have headphones with a volume control, I hope all of your songs play at about the same volume
All in all I like this case, its lite, it feels good, it fits the phone I bought it for and its very affordable.
The Galaxy S3 fits inside even with a case
The hole for the earphone jack lines up perfectly
The armband is fairly long
The top flap where the phone slides in doesn't have a clip or velcro
The plastic screen isn't reienforced very well
No easy way to get to the volume control
- I can slide my Galaxy S3 in with it's case on.
- The rubber dots on the band keep it from sliding around.
- The top flap has a hole for the headphone jack
- Using the phone through the plastic works fine.
- The band isn't elastic at all. It's hard to get on and off, especially with the rubber dots.
- There is no accommodation for using the volume buttons. It's basically impossible to use them.
- The fabric on the back of the phone lets a lot of moisture through. My phone is pretty sweaty after even a brief workout.
The first time I used it was in a 15k run
So a rambling review -
The spot for the key is small and wouldn't fit my car key (admittedly, I didn't even attempt it)
The rubber spots on the band definitely kept it place and I had no issues with that.
I needed to remember to turn my phone off auto rotate so I could see it in an upside down view...which made me have to do the headphone jack come out of the bottom. Not a big deal at all, but that's what it was.
I agree the volume buttons are a bit of guess work but I had NO problem changing the volume on my Galaxy S3...I just pressed in the general area and then adjusted as need be. I did it while running. Ideally, I'd like a little better access, but it works fine adjust volume.
I also have no problem getting the touch screen to work properly through the plastic. Occasionally I have to re-swipe in order to get the phone to awake, but sometimes that's the case anyway.
I had no issues with sweaty phone despite how crazy sweaty I was...although I have only worn it over a long sleeve technical shirt, so this could be factoring into it.
I had never use an armband before and became an instant fan of doing so. I'll read other reviews to find what might be important in buying a more costly armband, but this does everything I needed it to. No issues with wear or breakage earlier on as some have reported.
Update: 7/14- Over a year later and many more half marathons later - this armband has still held up and protected my phone. I haven't had any issues adjusting the volumes. Occasionally if it is extremely humid and warm (think summer ocean marathon) it can get a tad touchy for phone response. I have used Bodyglide underneath on long runs as one half marathon gave chafing from tightening it up so well. I have switched to using my amphipod hydration system to put my phone in on runs longer than 10 miles however as I do prefer my phone in that. Downside to that? No quick fix of phone functions.
