Great speaker for use as TV speaker! I read all the bad reviews, and all of them were about the apple airplay stuff. I don't use apple products. I was looking for speakers for my bedroom tv (actually a monitor) that I play netflix, amazon prime, and so on off of. I can't control my volume because my 'TV' is a monitor, so no remote for it. So, I was looking around amazon for a speaker that had a remote. I have this plugged in with aux cable to the back of my 'TV' and now I can control my volume from my bed! Works GREAT! It is just an infrared remote, so you need line of sight, can't hide the speaker behind the TV or anything, but that was fine for me. Sound is awesome for the price of this speaker too! I like that if I do want to take it to outside, or in another room of the house, I can just pick it up, and use it with my phone to play music.
All in all, if you don't care about the apple applications and apple music through wifi, and you just want a good speaker with a remote, that also has a cool charging base which makes it portable, well, this speaker is great! It seems the price has dropped a lot due to all the negative feedback from the apple problems, but, for me, that just means I get a great speaker at a lower cost! If you plan to use this with just AUX/Bluetooth, and don't care about the WiFi / Apple functions, then don't be scared off by negative reviews, it's awesome!

Purchased this new from Best Buy for as a Christmas present over a similar Bose system. Same price-point, but in the store I felt this had fuller bass spectrum. We're mac people, I'm a developer/programmer of many years and we had trouble setting it up from the beginning. Connection drops were continuous and range was very limited. It became a running joke in the family when I received a mini jawbone bluetooth speaker that works and sounds great, not to mention super simple setup. After having the iW1 for a couple years, my (now) wife decided to try setting it up in her new office at work and it wouldn't even turn on. No lights, no response. Contacted customer support and they told me to download the manual. After explaining it was beyond that, they didn't offer much help outside of purchasing a replacement. These were about $400 when they first came out and now after using ours about 10 times, I'm giving it away for parts because I would be insulting myself to think it has any value. If you're on the fence, look at all the Ebay "as is" iHome items for sale, that should give you clarity. I don't like to write terrible reviews, but I also think a company should at least slightly behind and/or support their product. Attaching a picture so you can see how clean it still is... still brand new with the same remote batteries.
