Note: For AirPlay, the iW1 must be connected to Wi-Fi with networked access to a Mac or PC running iTunes 10.1 or later; or an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch running iOS 4.2 or later.
Remote Control of Streaming Playback
Device in the other room? No problem, the iW1 supports play/pause, next track, previous track, and volume control of iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, and iTunes music playback from the speaker control panels, as well as the included IR remote.
Easy Setup
The iW1 is a breeze to get working, with a simple network setup and custom device naming. Just grab iHome Connect, a free app available on the App Store for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. Launch the app, connect via USB, and follow simple on-screen menus to configure Wi-Fi. You'll be enjoying AirPlay a few minutes after un-boxing.
Stream wireless music directly to the iW1 via iTunes, iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.Wi-Fi Certified
The iW1 is certified for 802.11b and 802.11g Wi-Fi Technologies. The "Wi-Fi CERTIFIED" logo assures the Wi-Fi Alliance has tested a product in numerous configurations and with a diverse sampling of other devices, to ensure compatibility with Wi-Fi CERTIFIED equipment that operates in the same frequency band.

All in all, if you don't care about the apple applications and apple music through wifi, and you just want a good speaker with a remote, that also has a cool charging base which makes it portable, well, this speaker is great! It seems the price has dropped a lot due to all the negative feedback from the apple problems, but, for me, that just means I get a great speaker at a lower cost! If you plan to use this with just AUX/Bluetooth, and don't care about the WiFi / Apple functions, then don't be scared off by negative reviews, it's awesome!
Sound quality is awesome, plays AirPlay from my laptop or iOS device. Battery life is good, and the little charging dock is a great touch. It sits in my garage where I listen to it mostly, but if I need it in another location, I just pick it up and move it. Remote works great, and functions perfectly with AirPlay.
I have very minor gripes, but not enough to knock any stars off my rating. First issue is the app used to set up your WiFi is painfully slow. However this only needs to be done once. In all the time I've had it, it has never had an issue finding or connecting to my network. I'm using a 2nd gen AirPort Extreme.
Second issue is sometimes when I am cleaning the house, I'll play some music from my laptop to all my AirPlay devices, which is a total of 3 apple TV's and this. I've noticed that with all devices connected, it sometimes drops the music signal, but I believe it's because I'm pushing the limits of my router. Connected by itself or with less than 4 devices, it works flawlessly.
However, the software and firmware are terrible and iHome clearly cheaped out on the WiFi hardware. Though I suppose it could be the software. In any case, twice a month or so this speaker loses its connection to my WiFi and has to be set back up again. This means having to suffer through the not very good iOS app over and over again, all with the knowledge that in a few weeks, you'll have to do it again.
Ultimately I got sick of this unreliability and plugged Apple AirPort Express Base Station MC414LL/A (Certified Refurbished) s into the speaker's audio in port. In that configuration it has been working flawlessly for 6+ months.
I would not buy this again. Looking forward to a HomePod!
Recommendation:
* Make sure you have a strong wifi coverage, if your coverage is weak buy extra wifi router/access point to place it around the house (Buy cheap ones,I have this one http://www.amazon.com/Cisco-Factory-Refurbished-Linksys-Wireless-N300/dp/B009RRZ36I/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1369714557&sr=1-1&keywords=wireless+router+e900), is very common Wifi interference from your neighbors.
* If you're felling geeky, use a wifi network analyzer like "network stumbler" for PC or the built in mac os x wifi network utility to determine what wifi channels are used around you(pay attention to the strongest ones). I recommend using one of this channels: 1, 6 or 11 that are not used.
PROS
* Excellent Experience (no dropped connection)
Streaming from my Mac (ethernet wired) to iHome iW1 (wireless) around the house, even outdoors, use your iphone or ipad as a remote control for iTunes. Streaming from my Iphone or Ipad to iW1 inside of the house, no issues.
* Ok Experience (Very few audio Drop for buffering)
When streaming Pandora this takes the double of bandwidth as if you're streaming an album stored in your iphone or iPad to the iW1. This happens when signal is weak (backyard)
* Price: You'll probably not find anything better (rechargeable batteries, Airplay, decent sound quality, nice finish, solid, well built) for this price
* Input and Dock connector (Standard iphone/ipad cable)
* Stream to multiple speakers from iTunes
* Stream form Apple TV to iW1
CONS
* It's not BOSE or B&W quality sound.
* It does not offer deep bass.
Hope this helpls.
