Top Customer Reviews
I am glad I decided on this particular one. This transmitter only had one 5 star review, but I figured it would be worth it (around nineteen dollars with shipping) to try it because it beats getting another brand with poor reviews.
I have been using this for a week or so and I must say it works wonderfully. It is hard to find a good station to broadcast my MP3's on in the chicago area, but the device works great with minimal static. I am not using it with a Sansa product, just hooking it up to my phone and playing my MP3's from there. The listing does say it is only compatable with IPhone 3G 3GS, which may explain why the fast forward and rewind buttons on the transmitter don't work with my Android phone, but actually playing songs over my car stereo works perfect. The hands free function great works too.
Overall I am really happy with my purchase!
1. Convenient to carry or, upon finishing, to stuff into a compartment in the car.
2. Performs reasonably well once it finds an open frequency band.
3. Does not drain the iPod, etc., at an alarming rate.
1. It doesn't store a charge from the automobile's cigarette lighter. It merely derives sufficient power for operation until the battery of the player is drained.
2. The auto-scan usually comes up with a frequency band that's one step away from what my car radio can reach.
3.. While driving, you're putting yourself and others at risk if you try to locate this little thing and grab on to it long enough to read or change the frequency. A stable transmitter is a better, safer option.
Better bets include the Coby CA-745 (at Amazon's value price): Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter. Also, I've had great success with the re-charging gooseneck contraption that's an inexpensive replica of high-priced similarly-designed models. FM Transmitter Car Charger and Mount Compatible with Apple iPod / iPhone. The primary problem with this one is the difficulty of reading the frequency band on the transmitter. But it works so well I'm able to keep the radio and transmitter set at the same frequency without ever changing it.
I finally decided to get the iKross 3.5mm radio transmitter and it worked out really well for me (I set it to 88.5) Sure, there is some static every now and then, which is not unusual of most FM transmitter. It's awesome I could just plug this thing into my car charger area and listen to all the music (mine or Pandora's) from my iPhone to my heart's content. I was pretty happy with this product, until...
6-7 months in, the adapter adapter cord got exposed over time (through normal use in-car only) which caused the whole thing to not work. The transmitter itself was still fine, but it's a design flaw on the adapter cord itself, in my humble opinion. Because it was under the 1 year limited warranty, I contacted the manufacturer and got info about the return process. I ended up sending the product back under the limited warranty refund (obviously at my own expense) and not expecting much, and I was surprised when I got a replacement to make my purchase whole.
In spite of the fragile adapter cord, I still think this is a good product (small, easy to use, functional) and I would recommend it to friends and family.
