Purchase options and add-ons
Apple’s iPods continue to set the bar for media players, with bold new features like the Touch’s supersized screen and Siri voice control. But iPods still lack a guide to all their features. That’s where this full-color book comes in. It shows you how to play music, movies, and slideshows; shoot photos and videos; and navigate Apple's redesigned iTunes media-management program.
The important stuff you need to know:
- Fill it up. Load your iPod with music, photos, movies, TV shows, games, ebooks, and podcasts.
- Manage your stuff. Download media and apps from the iTunes and App Stores, then organize your collection.
- Tackle the Touch. Send email and instant messages, make FaceTime calls, and shoot photos and HD video with the Touch's 5-megapixel camera.
- Go wireless. Use the Touch’s new iOS 6 software to sync content wirelessly.
- Relish the Nano. Enjoy video and photos on the Nano’s new big screen, and chart your workouts with the Nike+ pedometer.
- Master the Shuffle and Classic. Get mucho music on the little Shuffle, and use the Classic’s giant hard drive to tote around your audio and video collections.
- Pump it up. Blast iPod tunes through your home and car stereo.

About the authors

David Pogue was the New York Times weekly tech columnist from 2000 to 2013. He’s a five-time Emmy winner for his stories on "CBS News Sunday Morning," a New York Times bestselling author, a five-time TED speaker, and host of 20 NOVA science specials on PBS.
He’s written or cowritten more than 120 books, including dozens in the "Missing Manual" tech series, which he created in 1999; six books in the "For Dummies" line (including Macs, Magic, Opera, and Classical Music); two novels (one for middle-schoolers); his three bestselling "Pogue’s Basics" books of tips and shortcuts (on Tech, Money, and Life); his new how-to guides, "iPhone Unlocked" and "Mac Unlocked"; and his 2021 magnum opus, "How to Prepare for Climate Change."
After graduating summa cum laude from Yale in 1985 with distinction in music, Pogue spent ten years conducting and arranging Broadway musicals in New York. He has won a Loeb Award for journalism, two Webby awards, and an honorary doctorate in music. He lives with his wife Nicki and their blended brood of five spectacular children in Connecticut and San Francisco.

After studying drama by day and working for the campus newspaper by night when I was at Indiana University, I moved to to New York on the Greyhound bus when I was 22, figuring I'd crash the theater and get a job right off as a prop tart making stuff for Broadway musicals. That didn't exactly work out, but I took a sideways bounce into the world of publishing. I've worked around the city at several magazines and now I write the weekly computer Q&A column for The New York Times.
I did make it to Broadway, though -- just hailed a cab there last night.

That said, I needed to acquire an iPod Touch for long-term testing purposes.
For my own edification, then, I needed to learn all the important things about the iOS and Apple eco-systems.
This is a good book for that. In fact, it is overkill since it not only details the iPod Touch but very other major iPod in the past as well.
The writing style is crisp and straight-forward and all the key points are covered. Could you find everything in the book somewhere online? Absolutely, but the book eliminates your needing to invest the time and energy into finding the information.
For the modest price, a worthwhile investment, even though you're unlikely to ever use most of the iPod models covered in the book.

Seems like the book covers a lot of stuff that interests the kids and they think it very useful so I give it 4 stars because they have some common questions that weren't answered by the book and answers were found by asking other kids.
