This is the complete package for odor elimination and basic building block of environmental control. As the high flow inline duct fan passes through the tiny honeycombs of the charcoal filter, air passes through an extensive and complex network of activated RC 412 Australian carbon. Odor molecules and other harmful substances are then trapped within the carbon, while clean air passes through the filter and exits through the inline power fan. I gave this 5/5 stars because the fan is really powerful, and quality built with METAL fan blades. I stress this part because 2 other similar fans I purchased in the past died after 4-8 months when the plastic blades/impellar imploded and shatter from the high RPMs. The housing is powder coated aluminum, and although quite heavy, its light considering its size. Be cautious if hanging this in a grow tent, make sure your tent doesnt have plastic corner supports or it will probably snap with the weight of the lights, filter, ducting and fan. As long as your system is completely sealed, this fan is pretty quiet (1/2 the noise of kitchen stove fan on a low setting). Great job of moving air, keeping lights cool, and filtering smells.

Upate: For those that wish to know, the 4 inch fan moves 190cfm and draws 74 watts of power. The 6 inch moves 442cfm and draws 95 watts of power. The 8 inch moves 745cfm and draws 137 watts of power. Making the 8 inch the most efficent, followed by the 6 inch, with the 4 inch being the least efficent. Info was found on the instruction manual and i like to compare the cfm per watt used between brands.

Does a GREAT job at deodorizing. Easy to place in tent (I put it up high to extract heat also) I used a bungie basket and hung it on a support bar with a Vortex fan (the big one with a 6 inch intake that mated PERFECTLY without any special material needed). Look here on Amazon for both. People complained it is big....Please look at the dimensions before complaining. Clearly stated 17 x 10.5 x 10.5 inches ; 11 pounds. I know the 6 inch part confused some but that is the intake hole. I blew mine out outside although mine produced NO dust....maybe others had bad luck. Looks like it would be easy to refill and charcoal is cheap. I am sucking air through this and exhausting it directly outside into the room. In the summer I used to get a piece of plywood and cut it into the size of the window lifted about 8 inches and mounted a dryer vent on the outside to keep out insects and birds when the fan was off. I painted the outside white and you could barely notice it from the outside. I put a cut piece of wood to block as a jam for the top of the window so it could not be opened from the outside. I also had a portable air conditioner with it's exhaust mounted on the same piece of wood and another dryer vent. The vortex fan I got is about 15-20 lbs so the total weight is 30ish. If you plan on doing what I am doing then buy some corner replacements for your tent. NONE of the tents come with good corner pieces. they are cheap to replace, I bought mine from eBay but they're becoming more common. If you don't they will break under this load especially if you have mounted lights in there too.

So I'm a couple months into this kit, so I can't determine the long term reliability of the fan...but have enough experience to share some ups and downs.

First off - if your considering this 8" vs anything smaller ALWAYS get the bigger kit. There is a huge reduction in noise, and a potentiometer or fan controller should be used so you can turn this fan down to meet your needs.

The filter is visually very nice, and rather large. The fit to the 8" ducting was a 2 person press fit, so tight you might not even have to clamp it. The downside is, it's almost exhausted and will need replacement next month. Slightly more expensive models lasted over 10 month, so it's a little disappointing.

The fan appears to be the best part of the kit - it's slightly more audible than some name brand counterparts and I'm 99% sure the anti rust China coating probably gunked up the bearings so it's a definite - disassemble and degrease then oil - affair I wish I would have done before putting this in a production environment (mines taped so I don't know if you even can do this). There is moderate levels of air leakage in the center crease, so have quality tape and seal it a couple hours before use/hanging. You want a dimmer/potentiometer/fan controller. This fan is good for circulating well over 100sqft grow area, so just keep turning it down until your temps are stable and air has sufficient CO2 exchange.

The ducting and especially the clamp are junk. I would recommend ordering real clamps...

For the price, it's completely on point. Very reasonable. 8" kits are almost always overkill for most, but the noise reduction makes it a must in my book.

I am amazed at how long this filter has lasted me. I have gone through another filter that used rivets to assemble and did not last very long. I purchased some coconut filter material and refilled after popping off the rivets and it did not last very long. This filter comes with screws and instructions for you to remove the screws when it is depleted and reverse the filter to double the life. To date, I have not needed to reverse the filter, but am ordering a replacement filter from this company. I am very impressed with the quality and no other company has come close to this quality. Excellent product.
