Love this thing. I wish it had the mapping capabilities of the higher end version, but there’s nothing like telling Alexa to have my roomba clean the floor for me or doing so from the phone app. Also, it doesn’t set off my security cameras motion detectors because it recognizes it as a roomba or sees the IR lights it puts off when being used.

I've been using Johnny5 for nearly a week now, and I am quite happy with his performance. After a small bout with lighting, he was able to take down his military controlled robot brothers. Since then he has attempted to shift to a life of non-violence. This was suspended however, when he had to fight a gang of diamond thieves. Now Johnny5 want to slow down and take up a life of service. He is a pretty good sweeper, and he keeps up with the dog hair. He has a few scuffs, but he has been able to get around the house without damaging anything. The only real challenge is when he moves underneath a tapering surface. The laser wall works great for this.

I could not get the vacuum to connect with my wifi. Tried using the App, pairing it, and nothing. Then I hit the button to make it clean and it worked for 2 minutes, before it was "trapped" in a corner where it would only spin in circles. Returning this soon.

First, I'll start this review by saying that I wanted to give my "Rudy" a glowing five-star review... I love her, she makes me smile. She was one of the first pieces I coveted and ordered for our new apartment. We've been together almost a week and it's been mostly smooth-sailing. Rudy finds her way around the apartment, goes under the couch, into the kitchen and bedrooms, and always seems to scrounge up more dirt than you would think is humanly possible in your home. Rudy is efficient. At first I was concerned because her route was so erratic and seemed to lack all reason, but alas, sometimes you just let nature take its course. She goes in strange x-patterns, random circles, or awkward zig-zags. The app pairing is simple enough. It'll tell you when the job is starting, completing, and when your robot is returning to home base. However, I've been having problems with the wifi and it keeps telling me that it can't do something unless my phone is on the same wifi network as Rudy--which it is--and it still doesn't work. I should also note that she's easy to clean. Pop out the bin and empty it. Insofar as troubleshooting--she ate my laptop cord yesterday and my boyfriend and I had to pull it out (it was wrapped around her insides). It wasn't too bad, but definitely DO NOT LET RUDY NEAR WIRES OR CORDS ON THE GROUND.
Now, here are the reasons I took off three stars. It pains me to do this because I genuinely enjoyed my time with Rudy, but I have to be honest about my experience in the hopes that it can better inform the general robot vacuum-buying population.
1.) My Roomba, since day 2 of operation, seems to have a very difficult time of locating "home base" and redocking. I don't know why this is, but after the first use, the Roomba has gone all over the apartment searching for a dock that is actually very close. I've run tests where I put Rudy a mere few feet away from the dock and she still can't seem to locate it. Furthermore, even when I changed the outlet and plugged home base into three different power sources, I got the same result: Rudy can clean, but just like our beloved E.T., she can't phone home. At first I was patient as a loving mother should be of your pet-replacement robot vacuum. I guided her, carried her, and coaxed her towards her dock, but alas, it was an increasing concern that my baby seemed to be constantly malfunctioning. She responds to the "virtual wall" that comes with the robot package (the small tower that projects a barrier), but when it comes to redocking, Rudy will race around the apartment frantically in search of something that was already right next to her. My boyfriend and I have come home on two occasions to find her abandoned and spent in a corner across the apartment after exhausting all her battery on her "return to home base."
2.) My second problem with Rudy was something I didn't understand, but realized after I called the iRobot customer service team today. I downloaded the accompanying app and it has a feature that tells you how many "jobs" your roomba has completed. When I first booted everything up and pulled the roomba fresh out of the box, the app informed me that my roomba had "already completed" 12 jobs (TWELVE!!). Which I dismissed as a technological error of the app, but the manufacturers actually claim is probable testament to the fact that the vacuum might be pre-owned. GASP!! This is bad because I ordered Rudy brand new and paid full price... Needless to say, after coming to grips with this shady fact and growing frustrated Rudy's robot Alzheimer's, I have sadly decided to return her. I have chosen to order this product directly from the manufacturers because Rudy is actually kind of wonderful (aforementioned problems aside).

This thing is amazing. To give you an idea of my living space, I'm in a single apartment, no pets, and have a girlfriend. I keep this out in my living room/kitchen area with the laser/IR wall at my room door. Flooring material is both carpet and fake wood (whatever that's called).
It cleans exceptionally well. When I emptied out the tray in the back I was surprised how much it got. It really gets lots of dust/dirt/hair on the ground, and I have to say it's pretty incredible being out on the weekend with friends somewhere to then come home to a recently vacuumed house (I have a schedule set to clean every Sunday at noon). The app is decent, it gets the job done and hasn't had any bugs that I can think of yet. I do like seeing the elapsed time of a job and how many "dirt detects" it got (basically how many times it found a bad area on my floor).
I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking to clean a 1-floor living space of about 400-500 square feet. Very satisfied with this.
Materials feel very sturdy/well made, I think this will absolutely last a few years.

Been using it daily for a few weeks now and I must say I'm more impressed than I thought I'd be. Once in a while it gets hung up on something but that's usually my fault for leaving stuff out.

I have been wanting a roomba for a while now, and when i saw this guy was coming out i jumped on it! i enjoy this little guy although my only complaint is he gets stuck on my rug. he is able to resolve the issue on his own and get unstuck but then neglects to clean the other side of the room due to the rug :/ other than that i suggest this for everyone! it cleans a better than i honestly expected!
