This little gem works exactly as described. I started out, by using the ArcSoft software that comes with it, and was pretty disappointed with its limitations. I stumbled upon a feature-rich substitute, quite by accident --'Debut Video Capture Software' by NCH-- which allows one to fine-tune all the aspects of a recorded video, to suit. NCH has a whole suite of install-on-demand offerings, and offers both free & registered versions, apparently. I discovered that, by reducing the size of the video, there is virtually no stuttering of the output on the computer screen. In any case, the rendered file, turned out to be excellent. Frame rate, also, had to be tweaked (to prevent frame-dropping), since this computer isn't the 'latest & greatest.' LOL

I am not disappointed, with this device, since I dumped ArcSoft. I don't believe you will be, either.

This product is complete crap. As an semi-pro videographer for 11 years and an IT support provider for 8, I thought this user-friendly device would be a snap, and I was only concerned with poor picture quality. Unfortunately I drastically overestimated the quality of this chunk of worthlessness.

The drivers are a joke if you're using Windows 7, particularly for the audio. It took quite a bit of bouncing around the interwebs, but I finally found a driver that would actually make the audio come through the device. However, it stuttered constantly and was completely worthless. After finding no help with the stuttering audio, I decided to bypass the capture device's audio completely and capture the sound through my computer's sound card. That worked beautifully, except that the included Arcsoft crapware claims that I was trying to copy protected content. Apparently it interprets any damaged frames as Macrovision protection instead of just old tapes and shuts off the capture every few seconds. I considered contacting Arcsoft directly about this, but their support page doesn't even try to hide the fact that it will take FIVE TO SIX DAYS just to reply to you.

The device seems intentionally designed not to work with any other capture software, so at this point it is a worthless piece of plastic.

FORTUNATELY, Amazon is a first-class example of how you take care of your customers and they've prepaid return shipping and will be refunding the cost of the item with no hassles whatsoever. Thank you Amazon!

I received the package and hooked it up as the instructions said. The picture was great and the ease of operation was magnificent..One problem...No volume. But I searched on youtube and found the answer. If you are using windows 7 you need...no you must disable the audio drivers in this package and enable the computer audio drivers found in devise drivers. If you have a problem with windows 7 audio, you can bet that's the problem!...Now I have audio/video and it records everything perfectly!!..Hint.....Everything!

It's ok for recording/preserving old family tapes and even recording gameplay. However, the quality will almost always be about 360p. One plus is that a I really like the recording and editing software that came with it.

This Video Capture Device does what it says it does. I followed the instructions and it works just fine. I converted a recording from an old video camera (made in the 1980s) to a digital video that I posted on You Tube Metric Pioneer.

I gave this product two stars because of the hardware and its associated drivers, and not the software. Unfortunately, I didn't get much of a chance to play with the software, but once it was installed, it looked exactly like another program I used when I had an iMac many years ago - that software was extremely easy to use and had a good bit of editing options. So, no complaints with the software.

But, the USB Audio Device drivers would NOT install correctly. I uninstalled and reinstalled, and went through every trouble shooting thing windows would throw at me (Windows 7, by the way) multiple times. I had the bright idea after a few tries to install the software and the drivers onto my Windows Vista laptop, but that didn't work, either. The drivers installed just fine, but the software refused to install. And both of my systems definitely met the minimum system requirements. So, go figure.

At the end of the day, if the audio drivers would've installed, I wouldn't have gotten rid of this product, but being able to capture video but no audio with regard to capturing video games is just a no-go. I need the complete package for video game capture.

I hope this helps!

I bought this with the intent of using my laptop as a monitor for my X-Box 360, and while you can view live game-play, it does so with sub-standard video quality and also a noticeable lag from when you send a command to when you see it on the screen. But aside from that, it's a great software allowing you to do everything you need for editing videos and posting them on YouTube... just don't expect this to make your computer a monitor for games that require fast input and on-the-dime game-play.
