Then I went back to Amazon, looking for an alternative. Found one that looked like a good substitute. It said something about turning the charger on when you’re ready actually to use it. Hmmm. Yup. As soon as I pressed the little power button close to the cord, it lit up, and now seems to work fine. Fortunately, Amazon seems to have anticipated that people might regret arranging a return and has provided a quick, smooth way to cancel it.
Pros:
1. Plenty of power to charge my weak-battery phone as much and as often as I need.
2. Easy to charge, easy to pack, and (now that I know to turn it on!) easy to use.
3. I like the little cord permanently attached to the charger. Like everyone else, I’m hoping it holds up over time.
4. Nice bright indicator tells you during charging how close to a full charge it is and when it is fully charged.
5. Quite affordable.
Cons:
1. It’s heavier than I was expecting. Six full ounces. For comparison, my iPhone with lightweight case weighs about 8 ½ ounces.
2. Also thicker. That cute picture of the charger balanced in the model’s hand cleverly conceals how thick it is (see photo). You’re not going to spend a lot of time with this little guy tucked into a shirt pocket.
3. It may be slower. I haven’t measured this, so all I have right now is an impression. My impression is that the actual charging of my phone with this charger is significantly slower than the charging with a charger connected to AC. That’s okay with me because I use it for one iPhone, but if there were three of us planning to use it to charge our phones in succession, I think we would quickly get frustrated with the time it’s taking. Yes, I know you can charge two phones at once, but most of us don’t carry the requisite cords/adapters around with us, and we would be looking to use the attached cord.

I was frustrated with this charger. After charging it fully, I plugged it into my intentionally discharged iPhone 8+. Nothing. Just sat there. I arranged the return with Amazon, gritting my teeth.
