I was able to fit a pair of pants, a pair of gym shorts, 3 t-shirts, a long sleeve button-down, 4 underwear, 4 socks, extra pair of shoes (minimal shoes), small laptop, small toiletry bag, medium size light-weight travel towel, and my chargers, in this bag without it looking overpacked. This was about the amount of stuff I could fit without having to try super hard to mash stuff in there and aggressively try to zip it up. There are straps to help synch it down.
Overall great looking bag that has been worth the money.
First thing you need to do is take some scissors and cut the stupid "handle" connecting the two zippers of the outside pouch in half. They're awkward when tied together, and mine actually just ripped off within a week. No real problem though, it made me realize just how much better the pocket is without it.
The bag is... okay. I'll use it, but I actually wish it had some dividers, maybe removable ones. it has a slot for a laptop, but everything else just kind of slides around in it. If you're using rigid things like binders and books, it should be fine, or if you're stuffing it for trips (this is NOT a hiking or backpacking bag, the straps are fairly minimal and it has no chest or hip straps, which are important)
I find the roll up cover for the straps to be kind of goofy, and they cover the top hanger loop, which I have a carabiner attached to hang my bag off the nurse catcher in my ambulance.
the compression straps are kind of slippery, and they don't do a whole lot of good.
The snaps are big and feel sturdy so far, but my large 17 inch laptop just doesn't really come out of the bag smoothly and cleanly.
the outer flap pocket is kind of stiff but has softened up with use , it has a couple pen slots, a slot for a notepad, and one other, and a larger pocket behind that expands inwards, which I like. The problem is that they're kind of loose and completely useless if you plan on using it as a shoulder bag using the included (quite nice) canvas shoulder strap.
I'm not really sure what the black handles are for.
The water bottle pouch works as long as the bag is on your back or upright, but a nalgene just kind of falls out if the bag is tipped over, and the slippery compression strap does nothing to help secure it.
The lower pouch is tiny, more of a pencil pouch or a place for your toiletries or underwear.
Overall, apart from that stupid strap connecting the two zippers that needs to just be cut in half (which conveniently gives you two pull straps) the construction is good enough, considering the price. I just am not overly thrilled with the design details considering what I plan on using it for.
Where this backpack is a five star winner, however, is as a duffel bag. It'd be easy to pack, with a slot for your laptop, it fits the TSA size requirements as a carry on, and would just knock the whole "travel bag" thing out of the park. But if you plan on hiking or backpacking, get a proper pack.
