"A truly sweet bedtime book to read with any child that has one more question, needs one more hug, or just one more sip of water before bed. Little Oliver has so much he wants to tell his mom before he goes to sleep and you know what? "A great book to read to smaller children or to read as a call and response story with skilled earlier readers." -Heather Lam, reviewer
"A sweet little story about wanting a few minutes more of connection to mommy." -Bibliofiler
"Every parent on the planet can relate to this story….What a heartwarming story... of unconditional love and caring….This is a book that exposes the loving heart of a mother towards her little unstoppable, adorable chatterbox….. a charming story to share at bedtime.” ― Storywraps
From the Author
“I was on an airplane going to meet my newborn grandson when I heard the child in front of me say to his parents, “You know what?”. My fingers immediately started typing and the book became a bedtime conversation between Oliver and his mom. As many children do, Oliver tries to delay the final night-night with the repeated question. I want little ones to feel the joy of a shared reading and older children to imagine what Oliver might say on that final open-ended spread.”

Oliver’s mother is super patient with her verbose little one. That doesn’t mean she lets him get away with things, though. I like how she offers direction and even says no when it’s for his best. But she lets him have fun too. Oliver’s commentary is certainly random, he goes from thoughts about poop to what’s under his bed to things that happened earlier in the day… Quite random, but oh so believable for a little kid. Little readers will find some of Oliver’s comments gross, others silly, and the final ones are sweet. If you need more humorous/sweet bedtime stories, consider this one.
I received an ARC of this title from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
While reading, bathing, brushing his teeth, Oliver's brain is whirling and whirring, conjuring new questions to pepper at his mother. When the routine ends, he then reaches back into his day's memories to discuss a trip to the pool.
Told in dialogue throughout, parents sharing this gentle tale with youngsters will recognize the familiar back-and-forth exchange. But Oliver oh-so-sweetly and smartly concludes his banter with "You know what?" with a declaration of love. It's just enough of a boost to keep a tired parent going!
Talsma's red-green-butter yellow and blue palette is neatly woven throughout the tale, accenting Oliver's world with charming fabric prints and spot textures. A silent but delightful menagerie of toys includes a pirate cat, toothy dinosaur and curious striped snake. The large, square book size smartly balances text and illustrations in a child-pleasing arrangement.
"You know what?" is a fresh and fun addition to the bedtime routine story genre.
