Will Hunter was born in the state of Missouri, but swiftly arranged to be raised in Southern Illinois. He spent his youth in the typical fashion: climbing trees, playing in creeks, starting fires, building forts, mistaking cats and goats for his siblings, and reading an incredible number of books.
He always wanted to be an author when he grew up, but repeatedly told himself that he was not original enough, or talented enough, and repeatedly put off his dream. Instead, he slogged his way through a dozen different jobs, trying to find his place in the world. He slowly picked off a degree in nothing-in-particular, and eventually realized that his fears of not being able to make a decent living as a writer were misplaced: he could not seem to make a decent living doing anything else, either. He decided that IF he was going to struggle to survive, he might as well struggle to survive doing something that he enjoyed.
