From the Author

Because I've helped over 3,000 online learners, I know that you're pressed for time, and you already feel overwhelmed.

That's why E-learning 101 offers practical strategies that solve your problems right now.

The 6 lessons in this e-book tame the biggest e-learning issues you'll meet.
Even the hairiest ones!

From getting on top of the technology, to carving out the time you need to study, and making sure you're not lonely - you'll find plenty of solutions here.

There's even a chapter called How to Study When you Don't Feel Like it - because, let's face it, you're not always in the mood to study before or after work.

Wouldn't it be great to stop worrying and just make some progress on your course?

From the Inside Flap

Introduction - How this manual will help you

At first glance, e-learning seems like a bit of a beast. It looks pretty wild, and maybe even dangerous. No wonder you're a little nervous.

In reality, e-learning's not quite so scary. With the right approach, it can be tamed.
If you're an adult learner who's new to online learning, this guide's for you.

We have one main goal here...

To take the worry out of e-learning.

The best way to do that is to give you simple and clear information which answers your most pressing questions.

So this guide contains the core information you need for e-learning success.
And that's all.

There are plenty of books out there which cover the A-Z of e-learning - from how to choose the right course, to job-hunting strategies when you finish.

You won't find any of that here. E-learning 101 simply covers the basics. You can worry about the A-Z of e-learning later (if ever).

And because this is an electronic guide, you don't have to wait weeks for it to arrive on your doorstep. You can stop feeling stressed today.

How to read & apply the lessons

The solutions you're about to learn can be used straight away.

We'll cover the 6 areas adult learners struggle with most. Each lesson begins by briefly explaining the nature of a particular problem. I'll then walk you through a 4 step process for solving it.

This is not a textbook. There's no passive reading here - in each lesson, you'll have the chance to apply the strategies to your own situation with Action Steps. The Action Steps will help you to tackle your problems right away - before they get any bigger.

You can note down your answers with a pen and paper as you read, or you can print out this guide, and fill them in as you go.

OK, enough background - let's get started!

The title didn't tell me that this book is a how-to manual for taking e-courses, but that's what it is. If you need to take an online course for any reason, but are intimidated, confused, or have no self-discipline, this is a wonderful book. It's short, concise, gives clear advice, provides excellent worksheets, and even helps with procrastination and poor time management. A big bonus is the dog photo illustrations. I enjoyed them tremendously.

Pinprick: The worksheets are in charts. On my Kindle, I use large print, and some of the charts were cut in half. The problem was solved when I switched to a horizontal, rather than a vertical, view.

I received this book for free in order to review it for The Kindle Book Review website. I am in no way affiliated with either the author or any publisher(s).

One of the greatest innovations of our age is e-learning. We're no longer shackled to a desk in a classroom, we can learn in the comfort of our own homes.

But that very convenience creates its own problems, but thank goodness Dr Liz Hardy has decided to help us!

Anyone that's enrolled on an on-line course will know how exciting you feel when you receive your schedule.

It's all so bright and shiny and new - but very easily that enthusiasm is diluted by influences in the home - TV, friends, the internet.

So how to get back on track? How to embrace the challenge and succeed?

Dr Liz's book is a brilliant piece of psychology that could be applied to many aspects of life - it's won't just help those embarking on e-learning.

She writes in a chatty, friendly way - don't fear this is just another dry old piece of text book writing.

I once joked to a friend that it will say on my headstone, `Life - the only thing she finished'. My enthusiasm for learning was never enough to beat my procrastination when it came to studying. But having participated in a psychology workshop, I know these books can and will help.

It's not a long book - it won't distract you from your ultimate goal. But it will help you get to grips with what's ahead and allow you to face up to the challenge of e-learning.

One of the great opportunities afforded by the digital age is online learning: enabling individual access to learning in virtual rather than actual classrooms. It's convenient - learning outside formal timetables and designated institutions - but requires some adjustment and self-discipline in order to make the most of the flexibility offered through technology.
At the same time as these more flexible learning opportunities become available, many adults are requiring new learning in order to retain (or obtain) employment. But not all adults are equally comfortable with computers and the internet, and it's easy to be distracted in an online world. So, how to make the most of the opportunities afforded by online learning, and succeed? If you've recently enrolled in an online course, or are considering it, and you are new to online learning, then this guide may well help you.

In six short lessons, Dr Liz Hardy covers the fundamentals:

Lesson 1 Who's Afraid of technology?
Lesson 2 Too busy to study
Lesson 3 How to study when you don't feel like it
Lesson 4 Can't it wait `til tomorrow?
Lesson 5 When deadlines attack
Lesson 6 Is there anyone out there?

All modes of learning require a commitment of time and a degree of self-discipline. Technology can be daunting at first, but eLearning interfaces are designed to assist and help is often only a phone call or an eMail away. For many, online learning may seem lonely: no other students to interact with. Dr Hardy offers some ideas for building your own support network.

Online learning can be a lot of fun and very satisfying - but there are challenges, especially for those of us who are easily distracted and prone to episodes of procrastination.

[Full disclosure: Liz Hardy sent me a free ebook in exchange for an honest review.]

This isn't normally the sort of book I'd review, but E-learning 101 is useful not only for adults learning online, but for teenagers too. Especially teenagers in small schools who have to take some courses online that their school doesn't offer.

I find that one of the downfalls of most how-to books is that they don't actually explain how to do things, but only give you tips without the reasoning behind them. Not so in Liz Hardy's book! Not only does she tell you what to expect, she tells you some things you can do to make learning by correspondence easier and some common pitfalls students face. At the end of every chapter she has a box you can write in so you can actually apply the lessons she teaches you to your course.

Finally, adult learners who are either currently using e-learning or expect to be using e-learning can read a book that gives practical advice about what e-learning is like. There's tips on scheduling time to work on your course, getting rid of procrastination (one of my personal bad habits) and avoiding loneliness. Really, what else can I say? This is 48 pages of pure gold!

Also: cute dog pictures on nearly every page, if you like dogs.
