I can understand why there might be some confusion. If you do a side by side comparison on the Panasonic website the lens for the FZ70 just says "LUMIX DC Vario" whereas the description for the FZ60 specifically says Leica. I've just begun researching this model But if I had to guess based on what I've researched, I'd say no. However I think there are a lot great features including the zoom and rapid burst that are persuading me to go with this one. I have a Panasonic DMC-FH25 and love it but I need a longer zoom for sports photos. In my opinion can't go wrong with Panasonic.

I looked a little deeper on the Panasonic website, regarding the Leica lens label. Turns out that Panasonic designs the lens, then submits it to Leica for approval to bear their brand name, and Panasonic manufactures it in their factory. So a Lumix Leica lens isn't really "made" by Leica. If I were to guess, the same factory makes the Leica labeled lens and the non-labeled lens.

It is my understanding that Panasonic is making the lens for this camera at their factory in Japan.

according to panasonic, the fz-70's impressive optics come from a production facility in japan with a 25 year history of making lenses for cd and dvd players. so, no this model does not have a leica lens.

No, the lens is not a Leica. When Panasonic uses a Leica lens, it is indicated 'Leica" on the lens housing.

I see a FZ70K on some websites for less than this FZ70. Could this be a different model, perhaps without the Leica branded lens?
