She states, "Divine Science healing is based upon the Omnipresence of God. Divine Scientists understand Omniscience to be just what it implies, the full Presence of God in all places at all times... God is literally present everywhere... God is in each soul, and will be called into fullest expression as the soul recognizes this truth and lives by it... As soon as one becomes CONSCIOUS of this Life and Strength within him, he is HEALED. It is the part of the practitioner to affirm the truth of this Presence... until the consciousness of Wholeness, health comes to the patient." (Pg. 1) Later, she notes, "Healing is one of the great gifts that the present generation has had restored to it. The light of healing has never been extinguished; there have been times in the world's history when it has burned dimly, and other times when the light has been very bright." (Pg. 35)
She explains, "Divine Science teaches the recognition of God-Thought only, because God is Love Universal, Omnipotent Knowledge, Wisdom, Understanding, Power, Joy... God is thinking through us, and when we turn our thoughts from the external and life them to identity with the One Thinker, we learn the meaning of thinking with God. The very words we speak are not ours, but are glorified with the Father's voice, and love, peace, power, healing, blessing, joy, speak though us. Our words are Spirit and Life." (Pg. 12) She adds, "In Divine Science we affirm our power to realize wholeness. Wholeness is bigger than Divine Science, by which we understand the infinite laws of God. This city, the United States, the world would be converted if you and I went forth to live by the power of God, according to His Law." (Pg. 26)
But she also admits, "I do not believe there is instantaneous healing, although there seem to be such cases. I look back to my own healing which seemed to take place in a certain lesson of a study class, but I see now that I had been preparing for it... The patient must be ready; he must expect and co-operate---do his part." (Pg. 46) She adds, "It is the act of belief that heals... How shall we hear the Word? First, desire earnestly! Turn your thought in the right direction... Second, endeavor steadfastly. Be true to what you know is right thinking... Third, realize. Practice the Presence of God in all times and at all places. All conditions must be met in the Spirit of Wholeless. He who aspires to spiritual healing, and seeks persistently will realize the Presence and Power of God." (Pg. 66)
This is an excellent and very accessible introduction to one of the founders of New Thought in the 19th century.
