About the Author
Hank Hayes is a law enforcement and military combat specialist whose invention and training system is credited for saving thousands of U.S. lives. His unique teaching skills coupled with accelerated learning and reality-based training environments put his seminars on the cutting edge for high-risk special operators or die-hard enthusiasts who want to take their combative skill set to the ultimate level. Hank brings the same cutting-edge awareness for the government’s armed forces to the everyday world where truth and solutions are greatly needed for the global challenge of alcoholism and addiction. After finally finding success dealing with his own issues in the mainstream treatment world for 15 years, Hank learned that his instincts about what he saw going on around him were right on target. His book is written in the same way his tactics for fighting were developed, designed to get the job done the first time out. Hank is available for live “On track and beyond” (attaining an addiction-free life without mainstream treatment) events, articles, radio, TV and motivational speaking engagements. Hank delivers the same passion and truth to folks dealing with alcohol and addiction as he does to those in the United States Armed Forces at the federal, state and local levels. I found chapter 8 a bit of a put off though, in that Hank virtually implies that we are all the sum result of of our choices, as adults. I tend to disagree with this. As many addicted people suffer from Mental illness, I do not believe that they should blame themselves for this illness. I do not believe that all people should strive for success, as Hank proposes. Many mentally ill people find it hard enough just to get through the day & they need TLC not a dose of pressure to succeed. Hank obviously does not suffer from any form of Mental illness, & he is indeed fortunate, but to suggest that all addicts can succeed like him, if they only try, is a bit simplistic.

As someone who grew up with Hank and witnessed his try too hard antics, I initially bought the book to support an old friend and check out his writing skills, little did I know that I would receive WAY,WAY,WAY more than I bargained for!!!!! I don't know the stats for the amount of people that have their lives affected by addiction, but having a sister who battled her way through and seeing it rampant at my former workplace, my observation is that the answer is not too many of us. That is what makes this book so great, because as someone who never fell into the drug or alcohol dependency epidemic there was not only value in understanding how the mind and behavior of an addict works, but I promise you that the processes and insights in this book make it so that there is value for ANYONE who reads this book. I can't even imagine the value for someone who HAS fallen into the throws of addiction. I don't like being too bold because it tends to draw skeptics like a magnet to steel, but there are very few mediums that can change your life profoundly and make YOUR life significantly better as Hank's book so readily does. (The last for me was the movie "Pay It Forward"). Hank shares his experience, his knowledge and his heart without holding anything back and the result is a book that is FAR more valuable than the what, less than $20 you lay down for it!!! I like to give gifts of value to people and this book will be my gift of choice this holiday season. Thank you Hank for making me proud to know you and for sharing your gift with all of us!Read more
