I had no intention of using it for the included cookbooks or any of the other books offered on this platform. I was just going to look at the videos to determine the best video format and resolution that will display. That idea didn't last long. The recipes are really easy to make and are in a DivX ffmpeg format that can play on a PC. Each step is a separate video file in the recipe directory. Great for getting my kids involved in the kitchen. They can watch the video, perform that step and press play for the next step. I have already ordered more cook books.
The player has a simple, easy interface. The quality of the device is on par with other inexpensive electronics. The only two gripes I have are the SD (not SDHC) slot doesn't let the SD card fully insert. When a card is in, it still sticks out a quarter of an inch. This could very easily snag on something and damage the SD slot or card. Second, the buttons on the front are not very responsive; I have to push them very hard. The remote works just fine though. I like the plastic shrink wrap on the remote, easy clean up and lets you have access to replace the battery without removal.
Allow me to repeat, I am beyond thrilled with my purchase, and I ended up really using it as a video cookbook.
can watch videos on it too if they are in the right format
Can be an e-reader for text but not the greatest to use that way
I bought it for $20 not for the recipes although they are pretty good.. but to see if I wanted .. a kindle or other type of e-reader.
I read many books...and wondered if I would want to give up turning 'paper pages'. My conclusion? dont think other expensive electronic page turners..are for me.
While the quality of the screen on this
MiBook is good..and sound is not so bad either...that is not the issue..it is for me...missing the smell and feel of paper.
But I'm an old coot...maybe younger would think differently.
For the cook...it could be a fun platform to ..make your own recipes to customize and give as a gift to special people in your life.
This gadget...could be put to many uses other than what it is marketed as.. not to say..what it is may not be enough but it can be..much much more with a little tech savvy.
All in all I find this to be a good value and enjoyable to play with...I also listen to music on it..can play all my mp3 files with ease...so it does fill several niches
again...a well spent $20 saved me hundreds ..in that I won't buy other much more expensive gadgets... that I would not use.
Thanks Amazon seller for letting me buy/try a $130 gadget for $20 and ultimately I will...give it away ultimately...as a gift .. possibly with an SD card with home movies on it or me singing lullabyes...or loaded with family photos and clips of old family home movies. So many uses I can think of to keep it and similar..out of our landfills.
The miBook books are cute and the video clips play well - recipes are easy and the way they are presented is smart. They first show you the list of ingredients, and then step by step directions which show you what to do - there is a pause at the end of each segment so you can catch up with chopping veggies or turning on the stove or whatever... It works well for what it is.
I was hoping this would work as an eReader of sorts. It can display files in a variety of formats, but there is no bookmark function so if you are reading a long book for example, and you stop for the night on page 20, you would have to press forward 20 times to get back to the same spot... which is kind of a bad flaw if you have files of any length. Overall I am happy with it but it is sad they didn't add a book mark feature or this would be an excellent eReader on a budget.
