Dual USB Quick Charge External Battery for smartphones, tablets and more (6,000 mAh)
Top customer reviews
The Mophie Juice Pack Powerstation Pro feels very solid. The exposed aluminum hasn't shown any signs of scratching while its been tossed around in my messenger bag. The rubber is soft and feels pretty durable. The rubber also isn't a dust magnet.
The operation is pretty simple and straight forward - there's only one button on the side. When nothing is plugged in, the button simply lights up the charge indicator LEDs. If an iPhone or another device is plugged in, the button shows the charge level, and then starts to charge the connected device.
The Powerstation Pro has an IP-65 Ingress Protection rating. This means that it's completely protected from dust/small solid particles (that's what the 6 means), and it's reasonably water tight (that's the 5 part). The water test means that the unit can survive a water jet sprayed from a 6.3 mm nozzle from any direction for at least 3 minutes (Water volume: 12.5 litres per minute; Pressure: 30 kN/m² at distance of 3m). The product page on the Mophie website shows the Powerstation Pro being completely submerged in water for a short time. Will the unit survive this kind of accident? Probably. But the IP-65 rating suggests that your luck will vary if you take your Powerstation Pro for a swim. Don't submerge it if you can avoid it.
The Powerstation Pro has a total internal battery capacity of 6,000 mAh. It can supply enough current for both standard and high-power USB devices (up to 10W). Although the newest iPad comes with a 12W USB power adapter, the 10W current supplied by the Powerstation Pro will not damage the iPad - or any of the latest-generation iOS devices.
For reference, here's a list of some popular devices and their battery capacities:
ASUS Transformer Infinity TF 700 - 3,380 mAh
Google Nexus 7 - 4,326 mAh
iPhone 5 - 1,440 mAh
iPhone 4S - 1,432 mAh.
iPad (4th Generation) - 11,560 mAh
iPad (3rd Generation) 11,560 mAh
iPad 2 - 6,930 mAh
iPad (Original) - 6,614 mAh
Microsoft Surface (with Windows RT) - ~4256 mAh
Samsung Galaxy S III - 2,100 mAh
Samsung Galaxy Nexus - 1,750 mAh
So, you'll get a little less than half a charge on an iPad 3 or iPad 4. I used my Powerstation Pro on a weekend trip with my iPhone 4S, and it lasted for two full overnight charges and two quick mid-day partial recharges - and the Powerstation Pro still had a bit of power left.
-An excellent portable battery for adventurous, power-hungry gadgeteers.
-It's definitely rugged, but not waterproof. Don't swim with it.
-It'll keep your smartphone running for at least one additional day... Probably two or three days.
-Your tablet may need two of these for a full recharge.
-Expensive, but it's a high-quality product. A worthy choice for Apple fans with discerning taste.
For current usage, we've found that it can charge an iPhone about 2-3 times on a full charge (from zero), and iPad's is enough to get it up to about 75% from zero. It's expensive, yes, but well made.
The device is a bit chunky but not TOO heavy. Considering the following features, it makes it worth the purchase.
- dual output (1A & 2.1A or 1A & 1A, but not 2.1A & 2.1A)
- 6000mAh capacity
- no-nonsense design
- overcharge protection
I purchased my battery from GOCELL via Amazon, and I DID have issues with it's ability to charge up after a few months, but I am going to attribute it to a "bad batch". I contacted Mophie directly and they were incredibly helpful and very easy to work with. I had a warranty replacement process started up within a day of talking to them over the phone.
A little bummed with the downtime I'm going to have without this battery while it's getting replaced, but other than that, VERY happy with it.
Along with the battery, get one of those 3-in-1 USB cables, and a 2.1A power adapter (like from your tablet?) and you're golden!
