The book also explains the case of physicist Robert J. Oppenheimer in eloquent terms and this goes far to explain the epic confrontation between Strauss and Oppenheimer.
The downside of this book is that it contains a lot of padding on tangential issues, since the Strauss-Openheimer issue does not merit an entire book to explain. Overall, this book is probably the best book on the Strauss-Oppenheimer case and on the politics of science during the two terms of Eisenhower.
