Product description

A professional air conditioner cleaner that effectively removes odors, dust and pollen buildup from the evaporator core of the air conditioner system for fresh and clean air that lasts for months. Klima-Cleaner is applied by removing the blower fan or through the evaporator drain tube. The special cleaning foam is then injected into the system where it removes pollen, dust, nicotine film, and odor causing contaminants. For best results, apply every 3-6 months and replace your cabin/pollen air filters. In addition to keeping the air smelling fresh, cleaning the evaporator will allow it to work at maximum efficiency for cooler air in the summer months. Klima-Cleaner is water-based and does not contain any harsh chemicals that can cause irritation. ATTENTION: Read instructions before using! DO NOT apply through the vents. We highly recommend professional application only. If uncertain about application, have a certified mechanic apply product.

About your vehicle's A/C system

Air conditioners work by drawing moisture from the air which in turn reduces the ambient temperature. The water collected by your car’s air conditioner unit is drained through the drain tube and underneath the car. However, some moisture stays inside the A/C unit (found within the dashboard) allowing odor causing contaminants including pollen and dust to collect. Klima-Cleaner flushes out the A/C system and the odors for fresher, cleaner air. Apply every six months for continuous clean air.

How it works

Klima-Cleaner Pro is a water and salt-based cleaner that removes odors from the air conditioner unit. When properly applied, the foaming cleaning solution is directed on to the evaporator, ducting and housing where dust, pollen and other debris have inhabited. The cleaner loosens and removes the contaminants which then drain out of the car through the drain tube thereby removing the source of the odor. Helps prevent odors from immediately returning. See additional tips below for odor prevention:

Change cabin/pollen air filter every time you apply Klima-Cleaner to prevent air flow restriction which can put stress on the blower fan.
Unless it's really cold or hot outside, set your air setting to the fresh air mode (instead of recirculate). This will reduce humidity in the evaporator housing.
Make sure the A/C drain tube is dripping water underneath the car after using the A/C. Keep the fresh air intake free of leaves and debris to reduce stress on blower fan.

I used Klima Cleaner to clean out my BMW AC system that was smelling musty and moldy. The mildew and mold were built up inside the system, so spraying with Lysol will only mask the smell and not get rid of the source of the problem.
It was a pretty simple process to remove the fan and get the foam to the right place. The air conditioner immediately smelled better and healthier.

A/C evaporators are subject to constant moisture. That's why you should turn off your A/C a few minutes before you stop to let it dry out a little. Unfortunately, once mold and mildew start to build up on your evaporator, you'll know it. You'll get that funky smell every time you turn on the A/C. Unlike aerosols, this is a disinfectant foam that you spray directly onto the evaporator. This applicator was too thick to fit through the vanes of my blower motor, but I had planned to remove my blower motor and clean it anyway.

This product doesn't smell especially bad, but you don't want to breathe it anyway. It took a good two days before my car stopped smelling, but at least the mold/mildew smell is gone now.

I used this on my 2003 BMW 325i that had the standard "Old musty BMW death smell" in the AC. It seemed to do a great job considering how bad my car was. I went from seriously wanting to vomit when i woudl put anything other then heat on, to being bareable. I'd say in one shot it got rid of 75% of the smell, which is REALLY good considering i had and EXTREME case of built up funk in the evaporator coil from the previous owner(s). I had to use Lysol in the vents itself since i wasn't comfortable with spraying the foam in anything other then where the evap coil was. But that's where most of your stink grows anyways. And the Lysol got rid of most of what was left. But don't read into that too much, liek i said my case was extreme. For most smelly ACs i'm sure one shot will do just fine.

I only gave it 4 stars because i felt like it could of been a bigger can. In addiditon they don't tell you that you need to stop and shake it continuously while emptying the can, otherwise the amount of foam coming out and the velocity diminishes quickly.

EDIT: 1/21/2014....

Ok here's an important follow up from my initial review. The smell came back about 70% after about two weeks. I tried the Einszett bomb, and all that did was make my interior smell unbearably like chemical for a week. So at my whit's end, I ordered another can of this, but THIS time, I read up online on how to remove everything under the hood enough to actually physically see and touch my AC evaporator (It's not as hard as you would think!!), and this time I could visually ensure that the foam got into every nook and cranny of my AC evaporator, and it did!! Afterwards, because I was doing other work under the hood at the same time that caused me to have to leave the car off, I didn't run the fan after 20 mins like the can says. It sat in there, undisturbed, for about an hour before I ended up starting my car and running the fan for the first time. That was 3 weeks ago. And from moment one after doing this it smells absolutely brand new!! Zero hint of any odor. Even after cycling the AC on and off on a hot humid day (We've actually had a few of those here in VA recently). I've TRIED to make it smell again, and I cannot replicate the issue!! So the moral is, if AT ALL possible, do not shoot blindly into yrou vents with this. Get to your evaporator as much as you can and visually watch and ensure that the foam gets on every inch of your evaporator and it will me time AND money well spent!!!!

It's not the can's fault!

This is a huge pain in the butt.
Probably because I own a Volkswagen.
I only accept the blame that I own the car, not that I needed to use this in the first place. No one took care of this car, so I got it on the cheap. I know from prior experience on VW forums, that this is the stuff to use.
Now, using it properly, is another story. They are very clear in the instructions that if you don't do what you're told, get someone qualified to. There is a video going around on the Tube that shows someone just putting this down the center vents. I will admit, that if your issue is minor, this may seem to clear up your issue(for a time). However, I wasted the first can because I didn't want to get my hands dirty. It's okay because apparently the vents were garbage, too. They needed it.
MK4 VW:
1) remove glove box entire assembly
2) get the foam sheet out of the way and locate the blower motor
3) disconnect electronics from the blower motor
4) unscrew the bottom of the assembly and slide down to remove
5) don't break anything
To the left I see the A.C. evaporator
6) vinyl or nitrile gloves are helpful
You should probably grab a shop towel or an old ShamWoo (trademarked generic term)
7) gloved hand and guide the long tube attached to the Klima can, and start coating the A.C. evaporator with foam as thoroughly as you can
What foams up, will fall down.
8) Cover the bottom opening with the towel and count to at least ten seconds. It should have stopped trying to run out onto the floorboard. Foam it again. Get everything you can. There is about ten seconds before the foam starts falling out. Towel. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat until the can is empty.

Reassemble all your un-did parts and pieces and finish the instructions on the can. This was performed in the afternoon on a day between 80-90F.

I priced blower motors before I started, in case I biffed something. I checked all functions when I were finished.
I also used a chloride bomb on the interior. Detailers and Dealers charge a lot of money, and the car interior and A.C. are fantastic now a few weeks later, for less than $50 with this combination treatment.

EDIT - I have had the car for six months since I used this, as well as put on 5,000 miles. The smell has not come back.

I had a serious air con problem in my saab. Everytime is was on, it stunk. Seems I had bacteria in the pipes and condenser. Well, this stuff has worked!
I removed the glove box and found the pipe going directly into the condenser. I then sprayed it all into there.
After a week or so, it is now fresh and the smell is gone!!

I used it on my Tesla Model 3. I removed the two cabin filters and was able to spray the foam directly onto the evaporator coil. I used about 3/4 can to fully cover the coil in thick foam. It has been three weeks and it still smells much fresher. I anticipate doing this annually.
