Definetly not created to "soften or prepare hardened clay for use as many people seem to have been misled into thinking. This is not a fuction of any clay roller I know of". Also as far as I know it is not food grade certifed so no fondant use with this machine.
The turning handle falls out with the slightest movement so when turning the crank you must turn while pushing it into the machine at the same time. My machine came misaligned one side of the roller, resulting in one side some what thicker than the other side, resulting in some portion of the rolled clay to be less useful. These are annoying and a misfortune of poor design and/or workmanship.
However for the price it is for my use a recommend purchase, unless you are equipped with the issue of "money is no object" then spring for a more expensive version in
the $100 plus range. Perhapes you may get fortunate and find one with less annoyances.
Just be aware of the afore mentioned inconsistency's in the product in your purchase consideration. I found some what acceptable work arounds for it's imperfections.
All in all, this is a great machine for the price!
I returned it.
It does have one flaw I don't like and that is that the handle comes off really easily. It comes off while I'm using it and it's very annoying. I just pop it back on but I'd rather not have to do that. And there is some squeaking. It's not loud but it's there. It's more noticeable on the lower settings while rolling out the thinner pieces. I use it often and it doesn't seem like the squeaking is going to go away on its on. Maybe there is a fix for that. This is a great clay machine at a great price. This is a very sturdy machine that I will get a lot of use out of.
* I paid for this product without discounts and is my honest opinion.
