    If you are looking for a great collection of klezmer music, this has got to be the one. Extremely comprehensive, extremely legible, and some really superb tunes. A big and hearty thanks to the author who traveled Europe collecting these tunes, now written down here for posterity. The biggest bonus here is the CD, which has beautifully rendered performances of 36 of the 313(!) pieces, and really fantastic sound. In fact, the package is worth it for the CD alone.

    Don't let the price scare you away, this is a vast collection that is more than worth the price. If you can afford only one klezmer book, this is it!

    I have nothing but good things to say about this book -- except for one.

    SPIRAL-BIND THIS BOOK!!!!!!

    It's 400+ pages of chewy, yummy goodness, but for pete's sake, no one can conveniently use a 400+ page book of sheet music if it isn't spiral-bound! Strom has, with his typical exhaustive anthropological zeal, created a compendium of klezmer that can be used as a blunt instrument. I cannot imagine a publishing house looking at something like this and not deciding to spiral-bind it. Unless you put the book on the top edge of a stone wall and hold it open with a brick, it's extremely hard to impossible to use practically.

    So please. This book is a treasure house of information. Please make it less impossible to actually use.

    Wow, I absolutely love this item and so wanted to give it 5 stars, but two things:

    1) This is so jam packed full of wonderful scores, I should be spiral bound, as it is pretty impossible to put on a music stand and play.

    2) The CD does not cover all pieces, which is fine, but they are not in a very friendly order to play and find the corresponding page.

    I would still recommend this book, and would personally pay up to £50 for this, extremely good value for money!

    Sono molto divertenti, scritti molto bene e in varie tonalità.
    E' incluso un bellissimo cd con 36 registrazioni di Yale Strom e la sua band.
    Per tutti i 36 brani raccolti nel CD troverai la partitura sia per strumenti in Do che per strumenti in Sib.
