Not Like the Old Proraso Formula.

Something happened that caused Proraso to change their formulas (still great) and Omega to source their product from someone else (not so good). Maybe cost or distribution rights?

The cream lacks the consistency of the old version's soap-like texture. It also no longer has any menthol, which is quite noticeable when applied. In this case, they probably shouldn't use eucalyptus at all. It smells a bit odd. Not really like soap. Sorta like some kind of weird noxema cream. That said, it's not a terrible product. It's got an interesting formula and works well enough when you get the water ratio just right, but I don't like the propylene glycol. This product needs to be applied a bit wetter than the old version.

I find it quite cooling and more enjoyable with Proraso preshave creme, something that I never used before with REAL Proraso cream or soap.

That said, it's still a good value. But Proraso fans will not like it as much as the old version. I have no problems using it but I probably will not buy it any longer.

Once a good hard soap is now a weak soft cream

After buying in bulk in 2010, I finally needed a new order in Spring of 2013... what a shame that I didn't buy a pallet load of these back in 2010. The new formula is no longer the hard soap that lathers well and feels great. This new squishy-soft cream is harder to get to a good lather on the brush, and the finish effect on your skin is less slick/smooth.

In short, I HATE the new formula and will no longer be buying this sub par product. It's a sad shame that it still displays the old packaging and preys on the customers' prior expectations of a quality soap.

I've been shaving since I was about 12 years old and have used all kinds of combinations of creams, gels and razors. I recently made the switch to a safety razor and will never go back. But I also made the switch from gels and lathers to this shaving cream. The first thing that I noticed was how amazing it smelled when I pulled the lining off the top, you can really smell the eucalyptus. The second thing I noticed was how easy it was to work up a lather (I must confess that since I'm a newb and had no idea how to use this, I did some online research and found some very helpful videos on how to work up a lather with this type of shaving cream). Once I got it to the desired consistency it lathered up my face very well. After the shave was over my face wasn't hot and razor burnt like with the gels. I slapped a little hydrating lotion on afterwards like I always do, but I don't know that I needed it. I can't speak for other shave soaps, but I do like this stuff and am very pleased with it.

...Gotta agree with numerous other reviewers; this product has changed...and definitely not for the better. As a long time happy user of Omega shaving cream I was totally disappointed in the last bowl I purchased. The latest version makes it nearly impossible to get a decent shave. The product is heavy; so much so that my razor cannot get down to skin level. The pleasant eucalyptus smell has been replaced by a heavy soap odor. Further, the stuff is difficult to wash off your face. Until I learn that this product has returned to its former ingredients I'm "outta here;" I'll be looking for a decent substitute.

Full disclosure: I'm an ordinary guy. I'm not a shaving cream/soap snob, and I have no intricate knowledge of the differences between all of the brands and ingredients.

With all that said, I'm very very happy with this product. It's given me the closet shave I've ever had in my life. It completely makes my face feel different after I shave. There are a lot of sites (including the art of shaving site) that suggest against methanol in shaving creams/soaps because it "closes the pores". Well, I went from your everyday normal shaving cream to this product, and it has made a WORLD of difference. It feels great, shaves close, and I've recommended it to several friends who all say that they love it.

There may be a better product out there, but I'm satisfied enough to not shop for them.

I settled on Omega as my favorite shaving cream about a year ago, but it appears that they either changed their formula in the past few months or perhaps I received a bad batch. Since they also changed their container shape over the same interval, I'm willing to bet it's a formula change.

The new formula is very oily and has the consistency/look of sour cream. It doesn't hold on to the brush well and creates a very thin foam.
