This is one of those albums that takes several listenings with a hifi stereo to fully understand and appreciate. If you're an audiophile that wants to push your system to the max or someone that just feels a million miles away from the rest of the world, this album is for you.

All audio on the audio cd can be found for a free (band supported and sponsored) download on Nine Inch Nails' website:
[...]
This product is for the dedicated NIN fanbase. It does not disappoint.
This physical verison of "The Slip" brings back meaning for "Limited Edition." The term has become somewhat of a marketing gimmick as many companies label their products as "limited" and yet they remain in production years later. I was very pleased to find a unique xxx,xxx / 250,000 printed on the back of the of casing.
Inside you'll find the complete slip audio cd, 3 random artwork stickers for tracks off the album, a artwork/lyrics booklet, and a rehearsal DVD featuring 5 tracks; 1,000,000, Letting You, Discipline, Echoplex, and Head Down. The rehearsal DVD is my favorite part of this product as I prefer to listen to Robin Finck play lead guitar on all of these songs live over the album versions (especially Head Down.) I look forward to extracting the audio from the live recordings.
This product is a must own for anyone who openly refers to themselves as a Nine Inch Nails fan.
If you haven't heard the album, I suggest you download it for free (above) before purchasing this and possibly lowering it's product rating with unnecessary ignorance.

Ah, yes, the free NIN album. i paid for it regardless, because i am a fan of Trent Reznor and NIN, because i prefer to have physical copies of my music and artwork collection, and i am a musician myself (meaning, i wish to compensate fellow artists). So i am entirely biased in my opinion of this release and this album. How could i give an objective review?
• If you like prior albums "With Teeth" and "Year Zero", there are tracks here you will like. While those albums are rather oppositional in style, this album seems to come from a collection of songs originally meant for those other two albums. That doesn't mean that this album is not coherent or cohesive. It IS. It's just stylistically reminiscent of those other two albums.
• Related to the point above: the lyric content continues to be in the more political and self-reflecting realm, unlike the first four NIN albums which were more about personal relationships and anger/misery. The sounds are less composite and artificial than what you'd find in "Year Zero", and more like a synth rock band sound found in "With Teeth", but still not really a band sound, and still heavy with synths. If 2014's "Hesitation Marks" was a bit too light for you, this is probably more like the NIN you expect, but you should therefore already own it. [shrug]
• The packaging was nice. i bought mine direct, not through Amazon, so i don't know what YOU will receive. Mine came with art stickers. Feel free to comment on my review to tell others if those don't come with the Amazon purchase.

I love this CD. It is an amazing piece of work. It took me a few listens to like it as much as I do now, but my first listen was all it took for me to know how great it is. I just saw them live in CT at Mohegan Sun and the songs they played from this CD just makes me appreciate those songs even more. Head Down is great, Echoplex is awesome, and Discipline is my favorite single from the last 3 major CDs NIN has released (as in I like that song more than both The Hand The Feeds and Survivalism). This CD is a must buy. Once you do, listen to it more than once in one sitting. You'll be happy you did.

Trent Reznor continues to make listenable industrial music. After 19 years in the business, his angst is still refreshing today as it was on "Pretty Hate Machine". "The Slip" has it's merits, particularly the two most noisy tracks "Letting You" and "Head Down"--not that far from what Reznor was doing on 1992's "Broken". Then there's the the industrial rage pop of "1,000,000", "Discipline", "Echoplex" and "Demon Seed". Any one of those could be hits on modern rock or alternative music stations.
The point where "The Slip" slips up, is on the slower tracks such as the opener "999,999" which is basically a throwaway minute and twenty five second intro to "1,000,000". "Lights In The Sky" is a direct offspring of "Hurt" from "The Downward Spiral", but it lacks the emotional grip that "Hurt" has.
Then, for some reason, Reznor seemed to run out of ideas and gives us back to back instrumentals "Corona Radiata" and "The Four Of Us Are Dying" which total twelve minutes and ten seconds. I felt this was more indulgent and unoriginal than it was cool, trippy and relaxing.
With all of this taken into account, I give "The Slip" four stars. Better than average, but not as good as "Pretty Hate Machine", "The Downward Spiral" or "With Teeth". The best part of buying and listening to Reznor is that he is a free agent now. Like Prince, this could be good or bad. When you're on your own, you have no one to kick you in the pants and tell you that the music your making is garbage. Time will tell whether Reznor is better without meddling record companies.

After the instrumental album Ghosts, seems like Trent still knows how to write a kick ass industrial album. The Slip has the roots to their older stuff while stepping away from electronic this record has more drums and guitar distortions very similar to year zero. But nonetheless its a great album.

When I first listened to this album I wasn't really too bothered about any of the tracks from Corona Radiata onwards, however, after a while the whole album grew on me and now it's one of my favourite albums!!!
For me the transition from the soft 999,999 to the heavy 1,000,000 is brilliant and the rehersal DVD is good as well.
