pHin automates pool and hot tub water care by monitoring your water 24/7 and notifying you when it's time to add chemicals. With pHin you never need to worry about over chlorinated or out of balance water ever again. Works with chlorine, bromine and salt water based hot tubs, pools and spas.
pHin Treats Balancing Water Chemistry Differently Than You May Be Used To
Traditionally, water chemistry is measured about 1 time per week. This certainly helps to monitor the health of your water, but we, at pHin, have developed a smarter approach. pHin measures your vessels’ pH, sanitizer level and temperature over 1000 times per week.
There are many environmental factors that can temporarily affect water chemistry like: usage, weather, water temperature, sunlight exposure, etc.
pHin’s built-in intelligence creates customized recommendations based on your pool or hot tub’s unique averages. This means that pHin’s recommendations may be different from a single water sample, but we find when customers follow our recommendations their pools are more likely to stay balanced.
Automatic App Notifications
pHin will proactively alert you on your smart phone with an automatic notification when you need to adjust your pool or hot tub's chemicals. This monitoring service will let you know exactly how much of which chemicals need to be added.
Takes the Guesswork Out of Your Chemicals
Scan any supported chemical’s barcode and the pHin app will calculate exactly how much to add to your water. You will never need to worry about over chlorinated or out of balance water again.
We are committed to our customers. In the rare event the brand of chemicals you prefer is not already supported, you can notify pHin and within two weeks we will add your brand to our supported chemical list.

App is neat, fun to monitor and check status but after two weeks of use it doesn’t seem to be able to accurately measure my sanitizer level, or by using the test strips and comparison card. After adding chlorine and pH up nearly daily for a week at the suggestion of the app I took a sample to my local pool store. It revealed perfectly balanced water and chlorine levels that are arguably too high for safety, meanwhile the app always says that the water was unsafe for being too low. Not sure what can be done to reset or ‘calibrate’ and new baseline when there is obviously enough chlorine in my pool but all the bells and whistles of the cool app do not mean much if the readings aren’t helpful.
Also, connectivity was a problem at first and is a challenge I may not want to deal with daily. I moved my bridge as close to the pool as I could while keeping it out of the rain (about 10’ from the pool edge) and the pHin monitor still had trouble from the edge of the pool. Through trial and error I found that tethering it near the other side worked well. Problem is, the auto cover still moves it a bit and you cannot use an auto cleaner with a tether or they’d just get tangled up.
I sent these concerns to pHin in two messages 5 days prior to this review. If they respond with a solution I will gladly update my review. If they do not or the monitor continues to show improper readings I will be returning this product before it’s no longer able to be processed.
Phin Support contacted me shortly after my purchase and walked me through all of the monitoring capabilities as well as the connectivity issues. After a longer term of use the monitor has begun to pay for itself in unneeded and costly chemicals recommended by the pool store. After gathering more and more data, the app seemed to almost 'learn' where my baseline should be to be balanced. My original problem was that unless I brought in samples to my local store weekly or more, I was never getting to a point where things were truly balanced. Phin takes so many measurements daily that you can make small tweaks rather than major dosing when you get around to remembering to gather a sample and make the drive to a store. In the time since my original review, I have only added occasional chlorine (we have a saltwater generator that does a lot of that work), some pH balance to bring down alkalinity (which then has less to the need for some pH Up), as well as some conditioner to protect against UV (we have an auto cover so that again is not usually an issue). Bottom line, my pool as been nearly perfectly balanced the remainder of the summer and I have not experienced one issue of cloudiness even with heavy use during that time. In the time before Phin I had some of the worst water I've ever experienced in terms of cloudiness. It was safe, but not something appealing and even somewhat embarrassing when we had guests over to swim.
I'd put down 5 stars but I am still losing the connection from the Phin to the bridge from time to time. I'm hoping for an improved bridge that will help with my unique issue as my pool is so far from my home that there are only two places to plug in the bridge. Again, the issue isn't the distance from my wifi to the Phin bridge, it's the connection to the monitor which I need improvement. I mentioned in my original review that a tether did work but it would get caught in the auto cleaner. I learned that simply 'letting it lose' will allow for it to travel and hit sweet spots at times and maybe drop out a little. Since it takes so many daily measurements I'm still getting a good overall average.
I plan to renew my subscription next season and may even get a second Phin for my hot tub.
Update - No one called as scheduled. And my device is not monitoring properly. The chlorine shows it’s in the red but manual tests show it to be fine
Well after buying multiple brands of the same stuff like Ph+ and Ph- and chlorine, NONE OF THEM are in their database. At this point, it is just a fancy wifi tester that doesn't complete 70% of its advertised features UNLESS you buy their expensive chemicals.
Shortly after my initial review an update was released for the app. Since then, there have been 2 additional updates and chemicals can now be scanned in. I have had zero disconnects in the last three weeks and Phin is working like it should.
Read the negative reviews but still gave it a try. While I had no issues with accuracy, keeping the monitor connected was a chore. Tried to contact customer support but could only schedule a phone call weeks out and they never replied to either of my two emails. Also, none of the chemicals on their approved list scanned into the app. Cool idea but definitely not ready for prime time.
Update: I have returned my pHin for a refund.
