After 50 years of searching, I finally found a first edition hard bound copy of The Parable of the Beast. This was a "discarded" former library book. As advertised in the Amazon web page, the book was in "good" condition. Actually, it was perfect - a bit faded (with age - like me). Thanks to the seller! This book is truly remarkable.

John was a friend of mine for many years. First met him when he lived in Conn in the country, in 1964. He had inherited his father's seat on the NY Stock Exchange, and got bored with that. He wrote "parable" at that old Conn farmhouse, with its hard rocky NE soil. He had a brilliant curious mind, and he wrote with great precision. He was an expert on firearms and made his own ammunition. A few years late he moved to Big Sur, hung out at Esalen, bought a home. When Ram Dass came back from India, he went on tour of USA speaking at colleges about his journey to the east. A woman followed RD around and took extensive notes of all his talks. She arrived at Esalen and showed RD her notes in the trunk of her car, and asked RD if he wanted to make use of them. JB stepped forward and said "I can handle that", and he wrote "Be Here Now", which RD then edited. John was also a close friend of Oscar Ichazo (Arica School), and they came to Maui and bought property. Years later John died on Maui. He was arguing with a contractor who was ripping him off, and had a heart attack.

The most amazing book I've ever read, an underground classic!

One of the most amazing books I've ever read, and I continue to re-read it regularly. Though written in the late 60's, it's still relevant today, because most of the ground breaking research it reveals has received little to no coverage anywhere else. It describes the sensory time frames of other species, comparing, for example, the reaction time of a snail to a trout to a human. It reveals the similarities between humanity and other species when it comes to social behavior, agression, common acts like eating and more. It discusses the science and realities of time and space to various species, including slime molds, which are a fascinating life form.

The insights and conclusions in this book are amazing. Though this tome was written half a century ago, the years have only made the information MORE valuable, especially in our time, when world wide conflict and social sexual changes (well covered) are part of today's human experience.
