These worded, embroidered, brightly colored dog awareness products are designed with safety in mind to aid yourself, other dog walkers, adults and children from a distance with what type of nature/temperament of the dog that is approaching them. We are confident that this color coded system could assist with preventing the number of dog bites/attacks and reduce unprompted fights between dogs whilst out in public or on a walk. Now currently being stocked in over 600 stores worldwide in 25 countries, this is the best way to allow others to know your dog in advance.

He recently lost most of his ability to see due to cataracts, which makes him startle and be more reactive when other dogs bump him or get too close. Other than that he has adapted quickly and has learned to target by sound. I often found myself explaining why I was calling, clapping, and whistling for him at the dog park even when he was running straight at me. I would also feel the need to explain why he walks away from people reaching out to pet him (he's very people friendly, but he can't see them) and why he startles when something enters his limited field of vision quickly or touches him when he doesn't know it is there. It seemed like I was spending a lot of time explaining his quirky behavior so I decided to get him this bandanna. (I also have another younger dog who is one of those rambunctious dogs running around play fighting and chasing other dogs so sometimes my attention is divided; unless of course he is clumsily plowing into his brother and getting snapped at, which is entirely his fault since he knows his brother is blind and grumpy.)
I was a little hesitant to buy this not being sure it would work as intended, but he has been wearing it on our weekly trips to the dog park for several weeks now and not only does it save me from having to explain to every person in the dog park that he has limited sight, but it has also been quite handy in preventing misunderstandings with other dog owners when he growls at their dogs for getting too close to his face or when they run into him while playing. Now when he wears this bandanna everybody at the dog park feels sorry for him and forgives his grumpiness. Women in particular (his favorite), fawn over him. I find it quite amusing, as do a few dog park regulars who know that he was a grumpy old man even before losing his sight.
My dog is a 40# mixed breed (he looks like a cross between a Corgi and a Golden Retriever). He has a thick mane but the bandanna is still easily visible when centered over his back/shoulders. Being white it does get dirty quickly, especially when you have a dog like mine who loves to roll around in the dirt & grass, but the white is easy to see against his red/gold fur. I cut off the extra bit of velcro once I figured out the right size to comfortably fit his neck. My only criticism is that the triangular shape is better suited for a bandanna that hangs down in front of the chest; however the words are not visible in that position on my short-legged, fluffy dog. Instead, I center it over his back/shoulders so people can see it when looking down at him, but the point flips up and it folds in half obscuring the words. I've taken to folding the point under and will probably permanently tack in down with a few stitches in the near future. Other than that it stays positioned reasonably well and people generally notice it fairly quick.
Only one person has mistaken it as a indication that he is a guide dog for the blind, which resulted in a rather amusing conversation about my blind dog being a guide dog for a blind person and they couldn't figure out how that worked out.
I don't use it all of the time when I leave home with my dog, but it is very helpful when we go to a large dog event where we don't know everyone, so people get a heads up that he is blind before we even talk to them. It only takes a few seconds for someone to see the bandana and understand that he is blind, so they take a little care to watch their dog more closely around mine, so my dog doesn't get hurt. That is invaluable and very much appreciated. So, for anyone with a newly blind dog, don't hesitate, buy this bandana today, it is well worth it. My only uncertainty is that I am not sure if it would fit a very large dog like a German Shepard or a Lab.
If the company can make 3 sizes in the standard small, medium large and/or change the type of closure/make it longer and more adjustable this would be a 5 star product! (And of course make the measurements listed a little more accurate.) For this one though, it would work very well on medium dogs somewhere around 25-45 lbs as long as they are somewhere around 15 ore more neck wise.
I also don't love when the company puts their logo right up front and center - we aren't buying things to promote anything, we're buying them to alert people of our blind dogs. It's fine to put it somewhere discreet but this one is right there above the words blind dog (yes, I did see this in the photo and am in no way saying it was misrepresented, but just something to note.)
I am likely going to donate it to another blind pup who this will fit, and will keep checking around for something like this that will fit better.
The little Bandana is a fine neckerchief quality. Letters clearly seen. Very nice product.
Would like the velco attachment piece to be a little bigger so have more sizing options. Glad to have it though. Wish there were more products to help him and other adjust.
