About the Author

Maurice Grevisse naît le 7 octobre 1895 à Rulles (Belgique), d'un père forgeron et d'une mère couturière. En obtenant son diplôme d'instituteur, il s'écarte de la voie professionnelle paternelle. Il devient alors successivement régent littéraire, professeur et, enfin, accède en 1925 au titre de docteur en philosophie et lettres à l'Université de Liège. Ayant accepté de refondre une grammaire scolaire existante, il rédige une œuvre originale, Le Bon Usage, qui paraît en 1936 et deviendra le centre de toute une vie. Les plus grands grammairiens et écrivains de l'époque, dont André Gide, vont saluer ce travail minutieux. Il publie également une série de manuels reconnus pour l'enseignement secondaire. Plusieurs distinctions viendront ponctuer une carrière admirable, comme le prix De Keyn de l'Académie royale de Belgique en 1939 et la médaille d'or de l'Académie française en 1946. Maurice Grevisse disparaît le 4 juillet 1980 après avoir confié les rênes du Bon Usage à son gendre, André Goosse.

Titulaire d’un doctorat en linguistique informatique (Université Paris VII Diderot), agrégé en lettres, Cédrick Fairon est professeur à l'Université catholique de Louvain où il enseigne la linguistique et l’ingénierie linguistique. Il est actuellement Directeur du CENTAL, un laboratoire de recherche en traitement automatique du langage, qui analyse notamment les textes littéraires.

Titulaire d’un doctorat (Université catholique de Louvain) et d’un DEA (Université de Genève) en linguistique, agrégée en lettres, Anne-Catherine Simon est professeur à l’Université catholique de Louvain où elle enseigne la grammaire aux étudiants en Lettres. Ses recherches portent essentiellement sur le français oral, incluant des styles aussi variés que la chronique radiophonique ou le slam.
